Remember Desiree del Valle? The talented actress who once upon a time fell in love with a lesbian and even married her in some other country?
Well first and foremost, I am not judging her for what she did. She was young… thinking she can get away with anything…even murder and marrying someone of the same sex.
But that chapter in Desiree’s life is over and done with and she has moved on. I don’t know though about her ex-lesbian partner since she’s not from showbizness naman.
Anyway, Desiree and Vhong are now more open about their relationship. Before, they were keeping it a secret because of the annulment case of Vhong with his ex-wife Bianca Lapus. And then there was an item of Vhong and Valerie Concepcion but you and I were all fooled by the film’s spin doctors to think there really was something going on between the two of them.
Now, Desiree is more open and in fact, showed to the press the earrings and necklace that Vhong gave to her in her last birthday. “Pag mahal mo ang isang tao, susuutin mo yun binigay sa iyo diba?” she said.
Which kinda surprised some press who overheard her statement and challenged Desiree because Vhong is known in the industry as kuripot. Desiree defended Vhong to say that he is not a cheapskate and is in fact generous to his kids and to his family.
I personally received a nice gift from Vhong and have even seen his gifts for his friends. He is very nice and I would defend him from all the monsters in the world, that’s how special he is to me.

BILLY CRAWFORD HOSTS PINOY DREAM ACADEMY (SEASON 2)
NO less than international singing sensation Billy Crawford is hosting Pinoy Dream Academy (Season 2). Yes, he was chosen Billy to host ABS-CBN’s reality show for singers and performers. KIM CHIU CELEBRATES HER 18th BIRTHDAY

“As I take my stand and get ready to soar the vast sky, it would please me to have you by my side….” Were the words of Kim as she celebrated her debut last night at the Glass Garden. It was a fantastic debut which will be the main feature of the television special “My Girl Turns 18” which will be aired on May 4, Sunday at 9:30pm. Her gowns for her pictorials and the debut were created by Francis Libiran. The sumptuous food was catered by Hizon’s and the venue was beautified by Lily Flower Boutique. Souvenirs were from Charms and Crystals which was a big hit to the attendees.
A little before the debut, we talked to Kim. She was excited but at the same time, shy and very scared. “Dati pinapanood ko lang sa tv ang mga debut ng mga artista at dreaming na ako yon. Kaya naman this is really a dream come true for me. Para talagang fairy tale!”
Kim will soon be seen on television in “Maligno”. She is very happy to be given a chance to work with Claudine Barretto. Her happiness soared to greater heights when she was surprised in a presscon where the announcement was made regarding her being the star of the localized version of the famous Korean telenovela “My Girl”. In both shows, she will still be teamed with Gerald Anderson.
Dino Imperial scandal is no scandal
Kasama si Dino Imperial sa mga April celebrators na ipina-presscon ng Star Magic. He turned 20 last April 9 at isang bonggang foam party celebration ang ginanap sa Prince of Jaipur sa The Fort, Taguig City. Ani Dino, talagang nag-effort siyang gastusan ang kanyang birthday party dahil namaalam na siya sa pagiging teenager.
Puno ng foam all over the place na talagang wet and wild ang kanyang well-wishers na mostly ay close friends. Special guest ni Dino ang kanyang non-showbiz girlfriend. Aniya, some of his friends took pictures at ipinost ang mga ’yon sa kanilang personal blog spots. May ilang nag-lift ng pictures at nire-post ang mga ’yon bilang “The Dino Imperial Scandal” sa internet.
Kasama du’n ang picture na naghahalikan sila ng kanyang non-showbiz girlfriend. Pero ayon kay Dino, smack lang ’yon. May mga shots na partying moments at may isang nakahiga si Dino sa sahig in a sea of foam. “It was all fun. Nag-enjoy lang kami at wala akong dapat ikahiya,” ani Dino.

EB Babes scandal???
This is not really a scandal of a “sexual” nature,” this is more like a scandal which slipped something, but that something is not a nip or any body part. What actually slipped out is one of the EB Babes padding, yes, padding! The padding was positioned at the butt portion to make it look curvaceous and plumpy. This is really funny. I don’t know who of the EB Babes is it though who had a padding scandal, as i am not familiar of them individually.

Incredible look-alikes in showbiz
Try looking and talking exactly like a Philippine president. Or seamlessly imitating a Hollywood/local showbiz celebrity. Be sure to have the proper costume, makeup, and wig. Dramatize a typical situation or interview, exaggerate your gestures—all the while keeping the original personality traits, mannerisms, and voice intact. Above all, as if it was the easiest thing to do (which isn’t), make the audience laugh!
That’s impersonation. We’re not talking about look-alikes in scandal-mongering Net videos, of course, or fraudulent posturing that could land you in court and/or jail.
As a form of stand-up comedy, impersonation is similar to, and may include, impressionist techniques. An impressionist, like the popular Frank Caliendo in the U.S. who does Pres. Bush, can tell relevant anecdotes or do a mock interview while impersonating his subject. He creates one solid impression; for example, a stupid Bush pretending to be in authority.
Impersonators put themselves completely in the shoes of whoever they want to satirize or make fun of, whether that public figure likes it or not—the more controversial, or adored, the better. The whole package, from makeup to unique speech accent, portrays the real-life person with funny twists and turns. It can be a one-person stand-up act or part of a TV show, movie or play. Impersonators also dance and sing expertly like their chosen showbiz personality.
And so, audiences come away with impressions that may intensify what they already know of the personality or with a new way of looking at fame, human frailty, social manners and politics.
Many Filipino actors and actresses have ventured into impersonation but only a select few can be so hilarious that they’re famous for whom they’re not in real life. Performers like Willie Nepomuceno, Tessie Tomas, and Jon Santos have all been successful in this field. It’s a wonder that they can perfectly imitate not just one but various personalities in different fields.
Comedians who create their own character are of a different class and caliber, and so, are not included here. Worth mentioning is TV director Jun Urbano who created the Mongolian Mr. Shooli on IBC-13’s Mongolian Barbecue (1989-99) and who entertained audiences mainly through political satire.
Here are PEP’s Top Ten impersonators/impressionists, who are among the most sought-after in showbiz.
WILLIE NEPOMUCENO. Willie Nepomuceno, the Philippines’ Master Impersonator, has portrayed more public figures than anyone in the business. He started his art as a hobby in childhood, to impress uncles and aunts during family gatherings. His favorite then was imitating the singing icon of the ‘50s and ‘60s, Sylvia dela Torre. Only in college did Willie discover that people pay good cash to watch an impersonation.
Originally, Willie wanted to become an actor or a singer. But strict requirements for wannabe actors kept him out. “Dapat pogi, eh hinde naman ako puwede doon!” He chose instead to impersonate the top stars of the day: Victor Wood, Edgar Mortiz, and Tirso Cruz III, among others.
In his first stint as an imitator, Willie only did voice changes; eventually he imitated his subject’s look as well. His performance was so smooth, Willie could be Erap in one minute then switch to Dolphy in the next. He also imitated former president Fidel V. Ramos, the late Fernando Poe Jr., and even Jaime Cardinal Sin.
TESSIE TOMAS. The Original Queen of Daytime TV may be considered an inspirational stand-up comedian because the characters she portrayed—Amanda Pineda, Margarida, Meldita, among many others—paved the way for Jon Santos, Allan K, Candy Pangilinan, and other actors to include impersonation in their repertoire.
Tessie’s creativity brought her into some of TV’s most watched programs, like Teysi ng Tahanan, Compañero y Compañera with Rene Cayetano, and the sitcoms Onli in da Pilipins, and Abangan ang susunod na Kabanata. Her style and distinctive approach on comedy look almost natural and lifelike that people might forget that they’re looking at Tessie.

JON SANTOS. One of the few actors who can impersonate a man or a woman with perfect ease and gusto is none other than Jon Santos. His forte lies in his makeup and costume, becoming a funnier version of the person who’s lucky enough to be imitated by Jon.
Jon has been impersonating people for more than 19 years now. He focuses on what’s hot in the current scene, be it in politics or showbiz. Among his favorites are Vilma Santos, Juan Flavier, Kris Aquino, Miriam Defensor Santiago, and even the difficult ones like Ara Mina, Maui Taylor, and Oprah Winfrey.

MICHAEL V. The Master of Disguise, according to his fans, is more like a cartoon character than an impersonator whenever he imitates a person—or even a group of people—in the GMA-7 gag show Bubble Gang.
Bitoy, as he is commonly known, is a pioneer in turning impersonation to the next level by exaggerating a person’s looks and voice, usually emphasizing one feature, like a mole perhaps.
With over 50 impersonations to his name, it’s no small wonder that Bitoy can even imitate fictional characters and foreign actors. Among his best impersonations are Jet Li, Mike Enriquez, Regine Velasquez, Jon Bon Jovi, and many more.
Bitoy not only impersonates actors and political figures but singers as well. Not only that, he can make a joke out of the artists’ songs by creating hilarious new lyrics.

JOHN “Sweet” LAPUS. The ever-bubbly host of Showbiz Central did a good impersonation of Sheryl Cruz back in the days when he was still a contestant in gay beauty contests.
This PEP blogger can also sound like a very convincing Inday Badiday. It was in Rock da Vote where he unleashed his talent as an impersonator, and fellow stand-up comics like Jon Santos and Tessie Tomas definitely made everything more amusing than usual.
John is no pushover when it comes to comedy. He is confident, and can go head to toe with nearly everyone in the business. His comedic imagination is relentless and he can easily whip up a short skit that would send everyone in stitches.
Truly, the Teatro Tomasino alumnus uses his talent in doing what he does best: comedy.
Most Notable Impersonation: Kris Aquino
GISELLE SANCHEZ. Giselle Sanchez looks like a beauty queen with her poise and dignity. Pitch in a smart brain and you’ve got the perfect package. Giselle could easily pass for a sexy star but chooses instead to be a sexy comedienne, perfect for the men in her audience who can hardly keep their mouths shut—not from drooling, mind you, but from laughing at her antics and “don’t give a damn” attitude. Stand-up comedy is a breeze for Giselle.
The U.P. Mass Communications graduate became part of an organization in college (Samaskom) and performed for the organization’s annual musical-comedy-variety show, Live A.I.D.S. It was Tessie Tomas who discovered Giselle’s playful personality, and eventually got her a small part in the sitcom Abangan ang Susunod na Kabanata.
From playing trigger-happy in Abangan to portraying a wisecracking maid in Pugad Baboy, Giselle has definitely stayed on to be one of comedy’s funniest (and probably sexiest) celebrities. Her repertoire of naughty humor and playful disposition make her a sought-after performer not only here but abroad as well.
CANDY PANGILINAN. Another one of Rock da Vote’s prized comedians is Candy Pangilinan who, with her fellow stand-up comics, creates a series of riotous impersonation comedies. Candy’s razor sharp wit has brought her success in skits and solo performances—most notable of which is her Candy’s Be Love concert.
Candy’s portrayal of Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago is probably her most natural and convincing impersonation, mainly because of the acute reference to the senator’s stern bearing and matchless diction.

MANNY POOH-QUIAO. Pooh, whose real name is Reynold Garcia, can easily be mistaken for the People’s Champion as he possess nearly every facial feature—hair (especially the bangs!), moustache, and the distinctive accent. Looks alone won’t convince a crowd but Pooh can move nearly the same way as the Pacman, and can pull off a convincing one-two punch and finish it off with a punch line.
Pooh was first heard cracking jokes and stories as an in-house performer at a comedy sing-along bar in Malate, Manila. His impersonation of Manny Pacquiao during those times were light, but became a more serious affair when the boxer became a household name. Pooh’s extensive research on Manny’s mannerisms earned him a ticket to celebrity status as he soared with the champion boxer’s fame but on the comedy route. TV guestings and opportunities to perform in major comedy bars earned Pooh a place among some of the best stand-up comedians to date and, in time, became household name himself.
RENE BOY FACUNLA. Rene Boy looks like your average comedian until he transforms into Ate Glow, the funnier (and much better) version of the President of the Philippines.
His impressive impersonation of Gloria Macapagal Arroyo can truly convince the unwary as he is faithful to every detail without crass exaggeration. Rene has imitated other personalities such as Jolina Magdangal and Nora Aunor but it was his GMA impersonation during the campaign period that made his mark.
So, the next time you bump into Erap or Ate Vi or Kris, make sure they’re the originals! Our very own impersonators are that good.
REVIEW: “Ploning” and “When Love Begins”
It is understandable why movie producers would want to premiere their films on this auspicious day, the 30th of April. For a lot of Filipinos, the end of the month signifies pay day, making it the perfect chance to relax and see a movie.
Two locally produced movies will open today: Panoramanila Pictures Co.’s Ploning and the Star Cinema-Viva Films co-production When Love Begins. These two films were shot in beautiful locations in the Philippines and both deal with love but aim to show different facets of love.
Ploning is graded “A” by the Cinema Evaluation Board (CEB) and is classified General Patronage by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB). It is directed by first-time director Dante Nico Garcia. Ploning will be screened exclusively in SM cinemas starting today and will be shown in other theater houses starting May 7.
When Love Begins is rated “B” by the CEB and is classified PG13 by the MTRCB. It is directed by Jose Javier Reyes, who has been named Best Director several times, the most recent of which was for Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo in the 2006 Metro Manila Film Fest and the FAMAS. When Love Begins screens at 150 theaters nationwide.
PLONING. Judy Ann Santos portrays Ploning, the town beauty of Cuyo, Palawan, who is still unmarried at the age of 30. She likes to spend her time looking out to the sea and rubbing a balugo seed in memory of her great love Tomas. To the young boy Digo, ‘Nay Ploning is his surrogate mother since his biological mother Juaning (Eugee Domingo) is a paralyzed woman. Digo is portrayed effectively by first-time actor Cedric Amit, a young Cuyonon whose acting seems effortless.
The movie shifts back and forth from the 1980s to the present several times but through excellent storytelling, you won’t get lost by the details tying them all together. Expect the first part of the movie to be slow-paced, reflective of the laidback life of the Cuyonons. Around 40 percent of the movie is in the Cuyonon dialect so be prepared to keep up with the Tagalog subtitles as you watch the story unfold onscreen.
Ploning boasts stunning cinematography that showcases the sights in Cuyo such as the pristine Capusan beach, a bird sanctuary, a rocky pier and glorious golden sunsets that are simply breathtaking.
As Ploning, Judy Ann exhibits a wisdom and maturity beyond her years. Through her expressive eyes and enigmatic smile, we see that she is very much in love even though she has no visible partner onscreen. It’s not easy learning the Cuyonon dialect but she delivers her lines almost as if she is a native of the province. It won’t be surprising if Judy Ann nabs Best Actress awards for her heartfelt portrayal of Ploning.
Gina Pareño is Intang, the mother of Tomas, who pours out her grief and frustration in the climactic moment of Ploning. Tony Mabesa gives a subdued performance as the father of Ploning and his last scene with Juday will definitely tug at the heartstrings of people who feel misunderstood by their fathers.
Why it’s worth your movie ticket: Ploning has a lot of touching moments that will have you in tears.
WHEN LOVE BEGINS. Aga Muhlach and Anne Curtis are paired together for the first time onscreen with favorable results. Ben Caballero (Aga) is a lawyer who represents an environmental group while Mitch Valmonte (Anne) is involved in the marketing department of her father’s real estate company. Mitch’s father Paco (Christopher de Leon) is facing legal troubles because of Atty. Caballero. This situation forces Mitch to choose between her father and her new flame.
When Love Begins is a study of two people afflicted with commitment phobia—both Ben and Mitch are afraid of responsibilities because they have been burned by love in the past. Ben’s family thinks he needs some growing up to do while Mitch’s father would rather let her decide what to do with the man who is challenging him in court. Mitch must decide where her loyalties lie—the family business or the man who considers her as his “girlfriend—in a way.”

Actor Bernard Palanca plans future in Australia
Former matinee idol Bernard Palanca has been touring many cities in Australia, but he fell in love with Melbourne’s music and art scene and is planning to migrate there in the future.
“In terms of my lifestyle and how I like things, more or less they are all here in Melbourne that is why I chose Melbourne,” Palanca said.
Bernard came to Australia to test the waters for his potential career there. He even auditioned for an HBO television drama mini-series “The Pacific” which is a sequel to “Band of Brothers”. He was offered a role but unfortunately he doesn’t have a working visa yet.
“I want to get in, into the acting world locally here in Australia and hopefully and eventually that will lead to my bigger dream which is obviously Hollywood,” said the actor.
At the moment, Palanca’s priority is to get his working visa. In the meantime, he is very much willing to accommodate requests to host various events, to be a guest on the Filipino community radio and to catch up with friends.
In his spare time, this former member of “The Hunks” is just happy to walk around the city, play football, train in kickboxing, and of course do his household chores.
He said he enjoys the independence in having to cook for himself, do his own laundry, and being domesticated.
Palanca said he does not miss the showbiz lifestyle and now enjoys the freedom from showbiz intrigues.
“I like the fact that I can go out in the market and shop for fresh fish here and nobody knows me,” he said.
In the future he wants to bring his son and the rest of his family in Melbourne and call Australia home.
The actor said, “I love it, I love it here in Melbourne.”

Ever since the trailer was first aired on TV, fans have been waiting in anticipation for When Love Begins which opens in theatres today, April 30. Aga Muhlach and Anne Curtis can hardly believe the overwhelming support they have been receiving even weeks before the showing.

 KC Concepcion signed a three-picture deal with Star Cinema today, April 30. “Ang tagal kong hinintay ito. Ngayon, hindi lang isang pelikula kundi tatlo,” she beamed. Three highly respected directors will direct KC in her films, namely: Joyce Bernal, Chito Rono, and Cathy Perez-Molina. She also revealed that her first movie will be a light romance which starts filming by the end of May.

“Pero kung maganda naman po ang role, bakit naman hindi ko tatanggapin, e, maganda namang project ang Eva Fonda?” say ng aktor.
Actually, nag-attend na nga raw siya ng workshop for Eva Fonda 16 at doon ay nagkita at nagkausap daw sila ni Cristine Reyes, ang bida ng serye.
