OLACHIKA! Magsasalpukan na naman nga ang dalawang higanteng network dahil sa tapatan ng Dyosa ng ABS-CBN at ng Dyesebel ng GMA 7. Si Anne Curtis ang gaganap bilang Dyosa at si Marian Rivera naman si Dyesebel. In fairness, parang mas gusto ko ang Dyosa, kumpara sa Dyesebel. Ilang beses ko ng napanood ang Dyesebel na nagkaroon na ng iba’t ibang version sa pelikula! Nakakasawa na! Lalo naman itong version ni Marian! Diyos ko, day! Bukod sa kitang-kita ‘yung hulma ng paa at tuhod niya sa kunwaring buntot niya, wala ngang kasamang kahit isang isda ang mga sirena sa dagat, tuyo, as in hindi basa, ang buhok ng mga sirena at naka-curly-curly pa huh!
Nakakaloka! Hindi ba, Jing Chua? Magsalita ka! Comment mo ‘yan! Dagdag pang ka-cheapan ‘yung mga plastik ang mga bulaklak na nasa kanilang ulo! Ewan ko lang kung paano pagagandahin ang Dyosa. Pero knowing ABS-CBN, hindi ito patatalbog! Besides, kung kay Marian Rivera din lang naman, mas mukha namang artista at mas magaling na aktres si Anne Curtis, ‘no! Susme naman, no match, ‘no! Naman! ‘Yun na!
Anne Curtis’s sizzling photo shoot
Anne Curtis looked downright sexy during the pictorial for the teleseryeDyosa, where she wore three costumes representing her character’s different personas. The actress stressed, however, that the sexiness ends with the costumes and that Dyosa’s storyline is very wholesome. “It’s like wearing a swimsuit except that it’s more covered than a swimsuit. It’s sexy in that way but the story is really pambata.”
It took hours for Anne and some of her cast mates to put on their costumes. Epi Quizon and Carlos Morales, who both play “goat people,” had their costumes, prosthetics, and makeup done in a span of three 
hours. Anne’s leading men– Zanjoe Marudo, Luis Manzano, and Sam Milby–have yet to reveal their costumes for the show. Other stars present at the pictorial were Lloyd Samartino, Matt Mendoza, and Jaclyn Jose.
Anne was all smiles at the mention of Sam’s name. At a recent press conference, Sam mentioned that Anne is the only woman whom he is interested in and wants to be with. This statement flattered the actress to no end. “Wow! Really now… Talaga? That’s flattering. Wow,” a flustered Anne said.
Young actor Sam Milby said he is happy with the state of his life as he celebrated his 24th birthday.
When asked what his birthday wish was, Milby replied, “Ang birthday wish ko actually wala, masaya ako sa lahat ng nangyayari sa buhay ko. Siyempre gusto kong makita ang pamilya ko nang mas madalas. Gusto ko laging masaya ang pamilya ko,” Milby told abs-cbnNEWS.com.
The heartthrob admitted that he would like to buy a gift for himself.
“Sa birthday gift ko, gusto kong ipagbili iyong kotse ko at bumili ng bagong kotse.”
Plans for the future
The actor said he still has aspirations he hopes to fulfill.
“I want to go back to college, I wanna take up psychology pero hindi ko alam ang gagawin ko, kasi parang ngayon I’m getting into a little business,” Milby said.
He also wants to become a better artist. “Improvement lang sa lahat ng kailangan, sa craft sa Tagalog, sa singing, sa performance, sa lahat gusto kong mag-improve.”
Milby also shared that as a birthday gift, his rumored girlfriend, actress Anne Curtis gave him an XBox 360.
As Milby turned 24, he said that one of the best birthday gifts he received was the retraction and apology that brought about the settlement of the libel case against columnist-host Lolit Solis. Milby is now happy that everything ended well.
“Siyempre relieving. Siyempre we didn’t want to go on with the case, so just happy I mean it’s over. It didn’t go any further,” Milby said.
His relationship with Anne’s mom
Milby also denied reports that he felt bad that Curtis’ mother would prefer actor-host Luis Manzano to be her daughter’s boyfriend. He also denied reports that he and Curtis’ mother don’t get along well.
“We do get along very well, pero we haven’t had time to know each other na ganyan. Iyong report na lumabas na iyong preference niya ay si Luis it’s more na mas kilala niya si Luis kaysa sa akin.
“Kasi iyong first time na nagkakilala kami ay Christmas lang. This is the second time actually na we got to see each other. I’m sure na in time na we will get to know each other a lot more,” he said.
Last Friday, May 23rd, was Milby’s actual birthday. He did a show in Melbourne, Australia where Curtis’ mother is based. She showed up on stage and gave him a lot of gifts.
“I was so happy nanood siya ng concert namin ni Piolo… she came out on stage and said her birthday wish for me. She brought the cake tapos ang daming gifts na binigay like my tie, my shirt and my wine.”
Milby extended his thanks to the mother of his “soul mate.”
“Tita Carmen, thank you so much for coming to watch the concert. Thank you sa gifts niyo po at sana later this year I will see you again and don’t forget to text.”
Sam and Anne
Milby is now busy preparing for his latest series entitled “Dyosa” with Anne Curtis.
He said that right now he can not say with finality that Curtis is the woman destined for him.
“Well siyempre you will never know kung “the one” pala, but I mean magkakaroon ng time na you know she’s the only woman that you are interested in, that I want to be with you.”
When asked if Curtis is wife material for him, Milby said, “Yes. Iyong trabaho na gusto niyang gawin pagkatapos ng showbiz na mag-preschool teacher, she loves kids talaga, she loves kids.”
Presently, Milby and Curtis are still in the courting stage.
“Everything was going great with our courtship, pero parang we both felt na God is telling us na it’s not the right time pa, na we need to concentrate on God muna, so iyon ang nangyari. We do go on dates, watch movies together,” he said.
Milby has high praises for Curtis. “She’s, wow… she’s gorgeous beautiful inside and out.”
Sam’s career on the upswing
Sam started his career when he joined the first ever season of Pinoy Big Brother. He starred in ABS-CBN’s Book 2 of “Maging Sino Ka Man,” and Star Cinema’s “My Big Love.”
This early in his career he already received various recognitions such as 2005 Most Promising Male Singer, 2006 Prince of Philippine Movies by the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Foundation, Best New Male Artist in the 19th Annual Aliw Awards, Best New Male TV personality by the Philippine Movie Press Club in the 20th Star Awards for Television and one of the ten Most Well-Liked Male TV personalities by the South East Asian Anak TV Seal.
Aside from various commercials he is also busy doing concerts here and abroad. He will also have his first solo concert in September at the Aliw Theater.
He is set to do a concert with other heartthrobs this October to November in Europe.

HINDI GINAWA ANG “DYOSA” PARA LANG MAGING SIRENA SI ANNE!Kanya-kanyang akusasyon ang dalawang higanteng network sa kung sino ang nanggaya kanino. At ang latest issue nga ay ang diumano’y panggagaya daw ng ABS -CBN fantaseryeng “DYOSA” ni Anne Curtis sa “DYESEBEL” ni Marian Rivera sa GMA. In fairness to ABS, wala pa sa ere ang “Dyesebel,” pinagkaabalahan na itong itinayo ng kanilang Creative team. Kung sinabi man ni Anne Curtis sa kanyang mga interviews na na-frustrate siya nang hindi napunta sa kanya ang Dyesebel dahil matagal na niya itong pangarap gawin, hindi nangangahulugang binuo ang “DYOSA” para pagbigyan lamang si Anne sa kanyang SIRENA DREAM. Partly, maybe. Pero hindi pwedeng idikta ng isang artista ang konseptong gagawin ng isang Network para sa kanya. May mga screening committee pang pinagdaanan ang konsepto upang matiyak lamang na hindi ito kopya o pag-uulit lamang ng mga nakaraang serye na ng ABS. Sumailalim muna ito, siyempre, sa “Quality Control” mula script, cast, production values at pagsasalin sa biswal.
DYOSA has its own merits—it’s neither a remake nor a komiks series. It’s original at Pinoy na Pinoy dahil ang pagmumulan ng kwento ay hango sa Filipino mythology. Naniniwala ang ABS na bagay si Anne Curtis na gampanan ang isang Dyosa dahil maganda, matalino, may tindig: Taglay ang pinaghalong innocence and sensuality. With due respect to the creator of “Dyesebel,” ang kwentong umibig ang isang sirena sa isang manlalakbay na kamuntik nang malunod at kanya itong iniligtas ay hindi rin naman nalalayo sa kwento ng “The Litte Mermaid.” But it would be unfair kay Mars Ravelo kung pagdududahan naman natin siyang “nangopya” din dahil alam naman nating isa siyang Henyo ( na siya ring lumikha ng “Darna” at “Captain Barbel”).
Ang “Dyesebel” ay isa ng Pinoy classic at gaya ng Darna, marami na rin namang gumawa nito. Ang pagiging sirena ni Anne sa fantaseryeng “Dyosa” ay isa lamang sa tatlong iba-iba niyang anyo. Taglay ang kapangyarihan ng tatlong elemento—lupa, hangin at tubig. Hindi ganito ang Dyesebel. ‘Yun ang kaibahan niya kay Marian. Maging ang pagkakaroon ng dalawang unang letrang “Dy” (Dyesebel at Dyosa) ay hindi rin sinadya. Ang original title nito ay “Diosa” pero dahil wala namang letrang I at O sa tagalog, minarapat ng Creative team na gawin itong “Dyosa.” Dyosa simply means GODDESS. At gaya ng isang sirena, diwata at engkantada, alam nating likha rin ito ng malilikot nating imahinasyon. Kahit si Mariang Makiling ay isang folkloric icon na binuhay lamang ng pagmamahal natin sa mga kwentong-bayan.
Nakakaaliw basahin at pakinggan ang pagtatalo ng maka-ABS at maka-GMA sa Pinoy Exchange (sa internet) hanggang sa mga comments sa YOU TUBE. Sabi ng kampo ng GMA, gaya-gaya daw ang ABS sa Dyesebel. Sagot naman ng maka-ABS, ito daw ang orig dahil nauna raw si Claudine Barettong nag-sirena sa “MARINA,” binaboy pa nga daw ito ng GMA nang ini-spoof ni RUFA MAE QUINTO sa kwelanovela nilang “MARINARA.” Sino ngayon ang nanggaya? Ang Marina ni Direk Wenn Deramas ay ang unang FANTASY soap. It was not “MULAWIN” nor “ENCANTADIA.” But thanks to these two fantasy soaps dahil lumaban nang husto ang GMA. Ergo, ABS ang nagpasimuno ng FANTASERYE. Ang ABS din ang nagpasikat sa F4 nang maging hit ang Chinovelang “Meteor Garden.” Nauso ang KOREAN soaps. Namalengke ng sandamakmak na Koreanovelas ang GMA, ganundin ang ABS. Pero mukhang mas magaganda ang nakukuha ng GMA dahil naging hit ang Winter Sonata, Stairway to Heaven, Full House, Jewel In The Palace at Coffee Prince. ‘Di naglaon, sinubukan ng GMA na magpaka-Koreanovela sa pamamagitan ng “Forever in My Heart” ni Regine Velasquez at Richard Gomez na ‘di rin naman nakuha ang kilig factor ng Korean telenovela. Hindi naging masaya ang ratings ng “Forever.”
Nang maging hit ang MULAWIN, unti-unting umangat ang ratings ng GMA. At nasundan na nga ito ng marami pang fantasy series habang ang ABS ay bumalik ulit sa Drama kung saan sila magaling at de klaseng gumawa. Namayagpag ang mga fantaserye sa GMA dahil naging ESCAPISTS na ang mga Pinoy, gusto na lang takasan sa isip ang maraming problema ng bayan. The rest is history for GMA. When Love Begins Earned P69M in 2 Weeks
The Star Cinema and Viva Films’ romantic drama When Love Begins has already grossed P 69,277,632.90 on its two weeks of running. The Aga Muhlach-Anne Curtis starrer was second only to Hollywood superhero movie Iron Man, which already raked in P 120,930,291.90 for 2 weeks.
Compared with Aga’s previous movie “A Love Story” with Maricel Soriano and Angelica Panganiban, When Love Begins is lackluster at the boxoffice. A Love Story has grossed P 130,169,177.10 and it ran for 8 weeks. A Love Story was no. 1 in 3 weeks beating the Hollywood movie “Bourne Ultimatum” starring Matt Damon which also premiered last August 15, 2007.
Although When Love Begins can still run to 4 to 6 weeks of screening, it could only pull in approximately P10 million or less specially that Hollywood summer movies are now hitting the theaters. For what its worth, When Love Begins received a grade of “B” from the Cinema Evaluation Board which means the producers will only pay 50% for its amusement tax.
The independent movie “Ploning”, produced by various filmmakers collectively known as “Panoramanila”, has grossed P 10,546,847.40 in 2 weeks. This is an above the average performance for an indie-movie in the country. Furthermore, the Judy Ann Santos starrer was shown only in SM cinemas nationwide. Plus, it’s the first movie this year to receive a grade of “A” from the Cinema Evaluation Board.
Judy Ann’s previous movies like Ouija and Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo has grossed P87.3 M and P122.9 M respectively. Of course, we have to consider that SSS has no Hollywood movie competitor compared to Ouija so these two movies are both hits. And while her last 2 films are commercial successes, her latest film “Ploning” was a critical success.

Anne Curtis is ‘Dyosa’, ABS-CBN’s Next Fantaserye
Fil-Australian actress Anne Curtis (Kampanerang Kuba, Maging Sino Ka Man, When Love Begins) was chosen to play the lead role in the upcoming fantaserye on ABS-CBN “Dyosa”.
Here’s the synopsis of Dyosa:
Eighteen-year-old Dyosa is living a normal life as a student, a part-time cosplay model and a loving daughter to her midget parents when she discovers that she is not an ordinary girl. A half-man half-goat appears before Dyosa on her 18th birthday to reveal that Dyosa is actually a goddess, a descendant of Mariang Sinukuan and Bernardo Carpio, who is destined to rule the world of the upper gods.
Dyosa has to make a choice: Will she heed the call of her destiny and save the dying world of the Philippine gods and goddesses and leave the life she has lived for 18 years? Or will she resist her new role as a goddess and give up her powers to stay in the human world with the mortal she loves?
Dyosa is a goddess of the four elements which are Water, Air, Fire, and Earth. Anne Curtis’ character in Dyosa can transform in to Mermaid (half-fish), a Kentaurides (half-horse or Centaur), or a Siren (half-bird)
Also starring in “Dyosa” are Sam Milby, Zanjoe Marudo and Luis Manzano.
How Many Mermaids Do We Really Need?
First there was “Marina”, admit it or not it was the first show that started the Fantaserye (Fantasy Series) Mania in the Philippines, it was first aired on February 2004 and the Marina role is played by Claudine Barretto. Marina’s highest episode rating is: 47.8% according to Wikipedia, but do we really need to bring back that series on TV and worst, on a morning timeslot? Not a good idea.
Then there was “Marinara” dubbed as the first Kwelanovela on GMA-7, Rufa Mae Quinto denied that her show is a Marina rip-off, she said the concept & the story is different. Ahh… OK, by the way who’s original nowadays?
and now the newest mermaid on the block, Dyesebel played by Marian Rivera who registered a high 44.9% ratings in Mega Manila on it’s premiere episode, despite of the power interruptions in some areas. Dyesebel is the current #1 show in Mega Manila according to AGB.

Anne Curtis off to Europe next week
Mapapaaga ang 10-day European trip na gift ni Anne Curtis sa sarili.
Sa isang thanksgiving merienda kahapon, Tuesday, May 6, held at the 6th floor of Viva Films in Tektite Road, Pasig City, sinabi ni Anne sa PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) na sa halip na May 15, aalis na siya sa Monday, May 12. Bakit napaaga ang alis niya?
“This week, sinimulan ko na ang mga test shots ko for Dyosa,” nakangiting wika ni Anne. “Sa tatlong characters ko bilang goddess na anak nina Mariang Sinukuan at Bernardo Carpio, nauna kong ginawa iyong goddess of the sea. Half fish-half human ako.
“Happy na nga ako na nagampanan ko na rin ang role ng isang sirena, palagay ko, sinadya iyon ng ABS-CBN para matupad ang matagal ko nang wish. Pero gusto ko pong linawin na hindi major part ng story ang pagiging sirena ko, dahil mga illusions lamang iyon.
“Like ang pagiging goddess ko of the land na isa akong centaur [half human-half horse] at goddess of the air, na half human-half eagle ako with wings. Sa lahat ng tatlong characters ko, iba-iba ang hairstyle ko, kaya nagpa-hair extension ako at promise, magugustuhan ninyo ito.
“Habang wala ako, aayusin na ito [scenes] ni Direk Wenn Deramas para pagbalik ko, kung okey na, tuluy-tuloy na ang taping namin.”
Binanggit din ni Anne na katatapos din lamang niyang pumirma ng three-year, three-picture contract sa Viva Films at gagawa sila, for the first time, ng movie ng nali-link sa kanyang si Sam Milby, na co-production venture ng Viva Films at Star Cinema.
TALKING TAGALOG ANG GOING TO EUROPE. Napansin ng PEP na very fluent na siyang magsalita ng Tagalog.
“Nagsimula po ito nang gawin ko ang Kampanerang Kuba, na talagang hindi ako pinagsalita ng kahit isang English word. Inaabot ako ng umaga sa pagme-memorize ko ng dialogue kahit paulit-ulit, dahil iyon ang gusto ni Direk Wenn, na nakatulong naman talaga sa akin.”
Saan-saan ba siya pupunta sa trip niya?
“Sa Paris [France] ang first stop ko, gusto kong makita ang Eiffel Tower at ibang landmarks doon,” kuwento ni Anne. “Medyo scared nga po ako dahil sabi nila, marami raw magnanakaw doon, mag-isa pa naman akong magta-travel. Pero pagdating ko roon, may classmate akong makakasama, doon na kami magkikita. May mga tips na ngang ibinibigay sa akin iyong mga nakapunta na roon. Mag-iingat na lang akong mabuti.”
May nag-suggest kay Anne na nasa Paris ngayon si KC Concepcion at nagbabakasyon din, bakit hindi sila mag-meet?
“Naku, nakakahiya po naman, hindi pa naman kami formally na-introduce ni KC.”
Chanel pala ang signature brand na paborito ni Anne, at since nasa Paris siya, tiyak na dadalawin niya ang store nito.
“Nag-promise po ako sa sarili ko na titipirin ko ang euro [pera sa Europe] ko dahil ang mahal daw doon. Pero gusto ko pong bumili ng kahit isang item man lang sa Chanel store. Para masabi kong nakapunta talaga ako roon.
“Next stop ko sa Spain. Tamang-tama na iyong stepsister ko sa daddy ko, lilipat sa Ibiza, Spain, sa May 14. Kaya pagdating ko roon, nandoon na siya. Gusto ko ring puntahan ang Barcelona para makita iyong Sagrada de Familia Church. Talaga pong magpapa-picture ako roon.”
Natanong din si Anne kung bakit hindi mag-join sa kanya si Sam, para may kasama siya.
“May show po siya sa New York and from there, tutuloy siya ng Australia, may show siya roon sa May 22 and 23 at doon na siya magsi-celebrate ng birthday niya. Saka gusto ko po talagang mag-travel na mag-isa. Next year, gusto ko namang sa Italy pumunta.”
WANTS TO WORK WITH ANNABELLE. May nagtanong kay Anne kung sakaling papiliin siya ng gusto niyang makasama sa movie, sino ang pipiliin niya?
“Gusto ko pong maka-work si Tita Annabelle [Rama]. Maganda po ang feedback na naririnig ko sa movie nila ni Ruffa [Gutierrez] na My Monster Mom.
“If you still remember, ako ang unang gumanap na young Annabelle nang gawin ang story nila sa Maalaala Mo Kaya. Pero noong araw po ayaw sa akin ni Tita Annabelle nung kami ni Richard, kasi may reputation po raw ako na papalit-palit ng boyfriend. Pero later on, gusto na rin po niya ako dahil na-prove ko naman sa kanyang hindi totoo ang intrigang iyon sa akin.”
Sinu-sino ba ang naging boyfriend niya?
“Si Chubi [del Rosario] noong TGIS days namin, then si Oyo Boy [Sotto], si Richard and then si Paolo [Araneta]. Naging dates ko lang noon si Derek [Ramsay], si Luis [Manzano], na muntik ko na ring maging boyfriend, pero hindi siguro kami talaga, soulmates lang kami. Then there’s Brad [Turvey].
“Nang makilala ko si Luis, huminto na akong makipag-date kay Derek. Kami na sana ni Sam [Milby] noon, but we broke-off nang maging Christian na ako.
“But now, Sam is the first guy who courted me in this manner. He is really following the guidelines ng pagiging Christian at ng book na When Boy Meets Girl. We’re dating, but no commitments. No responsibilities between us.”

“Hindi po. When I’m out of the country, ayaw ko po namang nakadikit lagi ang cellphone sa tenga ko. Siguro, paminsan-minsan, pero mas gusto ko po talagang mag-concentrate sa pamamasyal ko.”

“Yes po, ang magkaroon ng magandang voice. Gusto ko po kasing maging singer. Pero tanggap ko na pong hindi ako magiging singer dahil sa eleven years ko nang artist ng Viva Films, never po akong nakatanggap ng offer mula sa Viva Records,” nagtatawang wika ni Anne.
“Okey na rin po naman na nakakakanta ako sa ASAP ‘08 at sa mga malls kapag nagpu-promote ako ng movie or TV show namin,” patapos na wika ni Anne.

 With preparations underway for her second fantaserye in July entitled Dyosa, Anne Curtis is more than ready to play the role she’s always wanted. “Ever since I was 12, I’ve always wanted to be a mermaid. This is a dream come true for me and that’s why I’m so happy. It’s really something that I’ve always wanted to do and I’ve finally been given the opportunity. Ka-careerin ko talaga kasi feel na feel ko yung role,” she admits.
In Dyosa, Anne plays a goddess of air, land, and water who keeps the balance between the world of mortals and the world of immortals. Her powers enable her to transform into a mermaid, a bird, and a centaur. “It’s my first time to play a role with three different characters and capabilities. It’s something very different from what you see on TV so it’s something I’m really excited about,” she adds. Another first for her is that she has three gorgeous leading men to be played by Zanjoe Marudo, Luis Manzano, and Sam Milby. “I’m so excited because I’ve worked with each of them separately before. But this is the first time naming magtratrabaho together so I’m really excited kasi iba-iba sila ng personalities. It’s something to look forward to. In real life, iba-iba sila ng character, pero lahat sila makulit kaya masaya,” she says excitedly. In the series, her leading men will each play a mortal, an immortal, and a villain. But the twist is to keep the audience guessing on who plays what. “Hulaan niyo nalang kung sino sila dun para may mystery,” Anne says mischievously. During her first taping day in the waters off of Calatagan, Batangas, Anne proved to be a real trooper when it came to doing the underwater scenes while wearing her mermaid costume. The actress took some introductory diving lessons early this year from members of the Philippine team to learn certain signals and make it easier for her to act under the sea. “It definitely helped that I am a beach person to begin with. It’s so much fun for me under the water. Except for getting saltwater in my eyes, okay naman once you’re down there. Medyo nagiging red lang yung mata ko pero masaya. Ang hirap pero ang fun. It was something different,” she explains.
Because of the mermaid aspect of the series, Anne is also aware of comparisons people may have between Diyosa and Dyesebel, as well as Marina and other Dyesebel remakes of the past. “I’m ready to accept any criticisms coming my way. I think its healthy competition. It’s inevitable naman sa business namin. Ako naman, dedma na lang. Part naman yun ng industry. Expected na yun. That’s why I think you should only give your best para you don’t have any regrets,” she says. Even with memorable roles in Hiram, Kampanyerang Kuba, and most recently as Celine Magsaysay in Maging Sino Ka Man, Anne still strives to do her best. “As an actress, I don’t want to stick to just one genre. I want to explore different roles,” she confides. When asked how she feels about having a role made especially just for her, Anne relates, “I’m so happy that they gave me an opportunity to do this. I want to do my best because there are so many eyes on me now. Kailangan ko ibigay yung best ko because it’s a role that I’ve been waiting for, for so long.” |
The actress also divulges that it will also be her first time to shoot a “nude” shot for a project. This scene takes place at times when her tail becomes human legs. “It’s not what you think. It’s an illusion. Of course lahat may takip. I have prosthetics. Sabi ko naman I’m willing to do the scene as long as it’s an illusion, it’s not the real thing. Wala kaming first-hand info, pero isang kasamahang writer ang nag-forward sa amin ng isang e-mail na nagsasaad ng kita sa takilya ng mga pelikulang sabay-sabay na ipinalabas at nagbanggaan last Wednesday.

Sam Milby or Luis Manzano?
When ABS-CBN’s Australian news bureau interviewed Anne Curtis’s mom Carmen in Melbourne, she openly said that she still likes Luis Manzano for her daughter. Aside from the fact that she’s a very big Vilmanian and would like to have Governor Vilma Santos as a balae, she also finds Luis a very kind man. Unfortunately for her, Anne and Lucky’s friendship didn’t blossom into love. “Si Lucky nanligaw talaga… except soulmate lang gusto ni Anne muna.”
However, Carmen admits that Anne’s current suitor, actor Sam Milby, has also endeared himself to her and the entire family. “Si Sam he’s very mabait. Ma-to-touch ka sa mga ginagawa niya…like nungumuwi kami he spent Christmas and New Year’s Eve with Anne and the whole family.” And to prove that Sam is very much welcome in their home, she is set to watch the singer/actor’s Heartthrobs concert with Piolo Pascual in Melbourne and Sydney this May. “Of course, I have to support (him),” Carmen laughed.
Aga Muhlach happy for box-office success of “When Love Begins”
Abot hanggang tenga ang ngiti ni Aga Muhlach nang makasalubong namin siya sa ABS-CBN compund kahapon, April 30. Nakarating na kasi agad kay Aga ang magandang balita na successful daw ang nationwide first-day showing ng movie nila ni Anne Curtis na When Love Begins ng Star Cinema at Viva Films.
“Of course, masaya,” ngiti ni Aga. “Nagpapasalamat ako sa mga nanonood. I hope they really enjoyed the movie.”
Nadagdagan pa ang kasiyahan ni Aga nang malaman niya na nakakuha na rating na “B” ang When Love Begins mula sa Cinema Evaluation Board (CEB).
“Wow, salamat!” nagulat na reaksyon ni Aga.
Tatlong pelikula ang sabay-sabay na ipinalabas kahapon, April 30: When Love Begins, ang Hollywood movie na Iron Man, at ang pelikula ni Judy Ann Santos na Ploning. Ayon sa report ng Star Cinema, ang When Love Begins daw ang pinakamalakas sa mga sinehan dahil naka-P10 million daw ito on its opening day.
“It’s a long weekend. They [moviegoers] have enough time to watch both movies. So, sana suportahan nila parehas ng mga Pinoy ang movie namin [ni Juday] because we’re up against an international movie also, di ba?” pahayag ni Aga.
Natuwa rin si Aga nang malaman niya na tinalo raw ang box-receipts dito sa Metro Manila ng When Love Begins sa mga sinehan sa probinsya, kung saan showing din ang pelikula nila ni Anne.
“I really don’t know what to say,” sabi ni Aga. “The only thing I can say siguro is sana people will continue to support our movie.”
Sa ngayon, magpapahinga raw muna si Aga bago harapin ang susunod na pelikulang gagawin niya sa Star Cinema.
REVIEW: “Ploning” and “When Love Begins”
It is understandable why movie producers would want to premiere their films on this auspicious day, the 30th of April. For a lot of Filipinos, the end of the month signifies pay day, making it the perfect chance to relax and see a movie.
Two locally produced movies will open today: Panoramanila Pictures Co.’s Ploning and the Star Cinema-Viva Films co-production When Love Begins. These two films were shot in beautiful locations in the Philippines and both deal with love but aim to show different facets of love.
Ploning is graded “A” by the Cinema Evaluation Board (CEB) and is classified General Patronage by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB). It is directed by first-time director Dante Nico Garcia. Ploning will be screened exclusively in SM cinemas starting today and will be shown in other theater houses starting May 7.
When Love Begins is rated “B” by the CEB and is classified PG13 by the MTRCB. It is directed by Jose Javier Reyes, who has been named Best Director several times, the most recent of which was for Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo in the 2006 Metro Manila Film Fest and the FAMAS. When Love Begins screens at 150 theaters nationwide.
PLONING. Judy Ann Santos portrays Ploning, the town beauty of Cuyo, Palawan, who is still unmarried at the age of 30. She likes to spend her time looking out to the sea and rubbing a balugo seed in memory of her great love Tomas. To the young boy Digo, ‘Nay Ploning is his surrogate mother since his biological mother Juaning (Eugee Domingo) is a paralyzed woman. Digo is portrayed effectively by first-time actor Cedric Amit, a young Cuyonon whose acting seems effortless.
The movie shifts back and forth from the 1980s to the present several times but through excellent storytelling, you won’t get lost by the details tying them all together. Expect the first part of the movie to be slow-paced, reflective of the laidback life of the Cuyonons. Around 40 percent of the movie is in the Cuyonon dialect so be prepared to keep up with the Tagalog subtitles as you watch the story unfold onscreen.
Ploning boasts stunning cinematography that showcases the sights in Cuyo such as the pristine Capusan beach, a bird sanctuary, a rocky pier and glorious golden sunsets that are simply breathtaking.
As Ploning, Judy Ann exhibits a wisdom and maturity beyond her years. Through her expressive eyes and enigmatic smile, we see that she is very much in love even though she has no visible partner onscreen. It’s not easy learning the Cuyonon dialect but she delivers her lines almost as if she is a native of the province. It won’t be surprising if Judy Ann nabs Best Actress awards for her heartfelt portrayal of Ploning.
Gina Pareño is Intang, the mother of Tomas, who pours out her grief and frustration in the climactic moment of Ploning. Tony Mabesa gives a subdued performance as the father of Ploning and his last scene with Juday will definitely tug at the heartstrings of people who feel misunderstood by their fathers.
Why it’s worth your movie ticket: Ploning has a lot of touching moments that will have you in tears.
WHEN LOVE BEGINS. Aga Muhlach and Anne Curtis are paired together for the first time onscreen with favorable results. Ben Caballero (Aga) is a lawyer who represents an environmental group while Mitch Valmonte (Anne) is involved in the marketing department of her father’s real estate company. Mitch’s father Paco (Christopher de Leon) is facing legal troubles because of Atty. Caballero. This situation forces Mitch to choose between her father and her new flame.
When Love Begins is a study of two people afflicted with commitment phobia—both Ben and Mitch are afraid of responsibilities because they have been burned by love in the past. Ben’s family thinks he needs some growing up to do while Mitch’s father would rather let her decide what to do with the man who is challenging him in court. Mitch must decide where her loyalties lie—the family business or the man who considers her as his “girlfriend—in a way.”
Aga can still make hearts flutter with his bedimpled smile and natural playfulness. Even during a dramatic hospital scene involving his mother, played by Boots Anson-Roa, Aga shows his charm that doesn’t fail to elicit chuckles from the audience.
Anne deserves notice for her portrayal of the liberated and cynical girl Mitch. Her bikini-worthy body looks amazing onscreen and she manages to show a side of her that is aggressive when it comes to getting what she wants.
Shot partly in Boracay, When Love Begins shows that something that started out as a summer fling just might develop into something more serious. It’s a gentle reminder for everyone that taking care of the environment is everyone’s job, not just lobbyists just like Ben and his friends. And if you’ve got a “non-relationship” going on between you and your significant other, you just might pick up a few tips from Ben and Mitch.
Why it’s worth your movie ticket: When Love Begins has the elements of a good love story and you can’t help but empathize with the characters who had the right love at the wrong time.

Ever since the trailer was first aired on TV, fans have been waiting in anticipation for When Love Begins which opens in theatres today, April 30. Aga Muhlach and Anne Curtis can hardly believe the overwhelming support they have been receiving even weeks before the showing.

I don’t know though if this is a remake of the Lorna Tolentino movie but if it is, I too wouldn’t be surprised. Because everything is now being remade from Patayin sa Sindak to Marimar to Maligno. Hey guys, why not remake Roderick Paulate’s Bala at Lipstick… or Alma Moreno’s Nympha or I’m assuming it would be a popular choice…. Joey Gosiengfiao’s Temptation Island!
Anyway, if Diyosa is indeed a remake of the old movie, my tita would watch it because she was one of the many who saw it in the theaters (she related to me how she cut class to meet her yaya that time so they together could go to Ali Mall and watch it). The movie, according to her was about a fairy who fell in love with a soldier during the Spanish era tapos niloko siya. In turn, the fairy cursed all the male descendants of the guy.
My tita also related to me that Diyosa was the last movie of Alfie Anido. For those young ones out there, Alfie was a former matinee idol. Sobrang sikat daw niya before. “Siya ang Piolo Pascual ng panahon namin!”
Anyway, my tita now is scouring for the schedule of Cinema One because she says she wants to watch the movie again. While us young ones will just have to wait and see for the TV series, if indeed this is a remake!

Kung magtutuluy-tuloy ang magandang samahan nina Sam Milby at Anne Curtis sa loob ng apat na taon, siguradong sa kasal mauuwi ang lahat.
Sabi ni Anne, kung after 4-years ay okey pa rin sila ni Sam, gusto na niyang magpakasal.
Type na kasi ni Anne na habang bata pa siya ay makapag-alaga na siya ng baby. Gusto raw niya na makipaglaro sa kanyang magiging baby.
At ngayon pa lang, aminado na si Anne na mas type niya ang malaking pamilya, para mas masaya. Apat hanggang limang anak ang plano niya.
Siyempre, sumang-ayon naman si Sam sa mga planong ito ni Anne.

Mitch is a very rich girl who’s dancing from one relationship to another and she does not believe in commitments. Christopher de Leon is also included in the movie and he plays a special role in this movie as Anne’s father. He works in a real-estate company that plans to convert land in Boracay into commercial areas. This puts his work in conflict with the character of Aga who aims to maintain ecological balance in Boracay.
