KIM CHIU, BAGONG MARICEL SORIANO!

By RONALD C. CARBALLO

“‘Yung relasyon, wala pang ganu’n.

Masyadong mahal, ‘no!

Kim Chiu almost returned the car given to her by Gerald Anderson

Despite the closeness, a new series and an expensive gift, young actress Kim Chiu says that she and love-team partner Gerald Anderson are only and still the best of friends.

Playing the spunky character of Jasmine in the local adaptation of the hit Koreanovela My Girl is both easy and tough, according to Kim Chiu.

Describing Jasmine’s attributes, the teen actress said, smiling, “Happy. Bubbly.”

But what made Kim’s interpretation of the role different from the original is how she integrated her own energy with the beloved Korean character’s happy nature.

High energy lagi kaya masaya,” she added during the press preview of My Girl held at the Studio One of ABS-CBN last night, May 22.

RETURN TO SENDER? Despite considering other actors to play the part of Julian, ABS-CBN decided to pair Kim once again with love-team partner Gerald Anderson.

My Girl co-director Jerome Pobocan expressed delight with the final choice. “Why fix it if ain’t broke?” he told PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in a separate interview, pertaining to the love team of Kim and Gerald.

Kim, who just turned 18 last April 19, received a pink Ford Lynx from Gerald as a birthday present.

The chinita actress was reluctant to accept the gift at first. Her strict dad even suggested that she politely return the vehicle. Gerald, as expected, was against the idea.

“Oo, nung una ayaw niyang [Kim's father] tanggapin. Sayang naman daw,” recalled the 2006 Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition Big Winner.

STILL REEL, NOT REAL. During Kim’s belated debut party last April 26 at the Glass Garden in Santolan, Pasig City, Gerald was very vocal in saying that given a chance, he would love to formally court Kim.

Almost a month since Gerald’s brave confession, Kim was asked about the real status of their off-screen relationship.

“Hindi pa,” replied Kim when quizzed if they are already an item. The young actress openly admitted her apprehensions in taking their friendship to the next level, particularly the repercussions of facing relationship issues and its effect on their professional lives.

Some reporters joked that perhaps Gerald was already fishing for that elusive “yes” when he presented her the expensive birthday present.

“Hindi naman po ganoon si Gerald, nanghihingi ng kapalit,” Kim yelped in defense of Gerald.

That said, Kim clarified that she’s not shutting down the possibility of entering into a serious relationship with her co-PBB Celebrity Edition housemate. But for now, she’d rather have fate take its course than force the issue.

Kim’s dad wants to return car to Gerald

A READER is puzzled why Gerald Anderson would give Kim Chiu a pink car as a gift for her 18th birthday?”Anong klaseng gimik po iyon? Can afford na po ba si Gerald na magregalo ng kotse to someone like Kim na nagsasabing hindi naman daw niya boyfriend si Gerald in real life? Parang di kapani-paniwala at hindi kami impressed.”

Well, it could create awareness for their new teleserye, Pinoy My Girl on ABS-CBN. And Kim explained: “Hindi naman po siya brand new. It’s a second hand Ford Lynx, and it’s custom-built.

So, where’s the car now?

“It’s in our house po,” she explains. “Hindi ko pa po siya nagagamit.”

Meanwhile, Kim looks more excited with her new teleserye, Pinoy My Girl where she plays a jolly tour guide. “Ganun po talaga ako sa tunay na buhay,” she said when asked how come she was so at ease with the role.

Basing from the trailer, looks like it stands a good chance at the ratings chart.

Kim is perfect as the leading lady for My Girl because of her very exotic and oriental features. She did a lot of preparations for her role which includes learning how to speak in fluent Mandarin. Kim will be playing the character of Jasmine, is a poor yet courageous girl, who learned how to be street smart since she moved places a lot with her father. She likes using her favorite line “Tira-tira!” when provoked. Kim Chiu replaced Pops Fernandez as host at 38th Box-Office Entertainment Awards

Korean makers of ‘My Girl’ excited about Pinoy version

South Korean TV and radio network SBS (Seoul Broadcasting System) is very excited about the preparations being done for a Philippine version of its hit TV series “My Girl”.

“My Girl” is ABS-CBN’s first franchise drama from SBS Korea. The popular TV series is a story of love and friendship, and its Philippine version will star former PBB Teen Edition Big Winner and teen idol Kim Chiu.

The first taping week of the Pinoy version of “My Girl” has already been broadcasted in Korea and earned high praise and acclaim.

Fans are also excited about the on-going recording of the original soundtrack of “My Girl,” under ASAP Music.

As part of her preparations for the role, Chiu had to practice speaking in Mandarin. She said that she was a bit challenged with the language but with the help of her language coach, she was able to adjust.

The production team is also busy with taping in different locations like in Tagaytay, Batanggas and Marikina.

Instead of the strawberry fields in the original South Korean series, viewers are now wondering what plantation will be used as the setting for the Pinoy “My Girl”. Will it be an elegant vineyard or a corn plantation?

Pinoy “My Girl” also stars Gerald Anderson, Enchong Dee, Alex Gonzaga, David Chua, Regine Angeles and Nina Jose.

PBB Teen Edition Plus House Player SHY and Ex-PBB Teen Housemate GERALD ANDERSON Steamy Past

PBB Teen Edition Plus house player Shy (Farina Runkle in real life) seems to be the biggest kontrabida this time of the year, especially to the Kimerald love tandem.

Shy was one of the the Top 20 in GMA-7’s StarStruck 4th Season. Gerald Anderson has been interviewed in the past about this issue but he answered that there we’re no relationship at all, they’re just MU. Huh? Really?

Read below’s PEP interview with Gerald on December 2006:

So, hanggang kiss lang ba sila?

“Wala akong girlfriend now.

This old photos and video of Gerald Anderson and Shy have been brought up again, for what reason?. Seems like Kuya is really getting out of control…wake up Kimerald fans out there. (In your…) Dream, Believe (it!, or not!), Survive (at least even the on-screen romance of Kim Chiu and Gerald).

Goodluck, My Girl!

The cast of the Tagalog version of the Koreanovela, “My Girl”, ABS-CBN’s star studded summer offering, is now complete.

Kimerald will be joined by Enchong Dee, Cathy Gonzaga, Regine Angeles, Niña Jose and newest talent, David Chua. Niña, now managed by Manny Valera and who made a splash with her sexy pictorial in FHM, is glad to be back with ABS-CBN, which discovered her in PBB Teens.

Therefore, they are both bound in a lie so that no-one in the family knows the truth.

Julian’s intelligent ex-girlfriend, Anika who grew up in a rich family dreaming to become a world-famous beauty queen, returns to Philippines after winning a title and works hard at getting back with Julian, thus causing both she and Jasmine to have cutthroat competitions for Julian’s affection.

Talkin’ about My Girl

KimKim Chiu’s debut–and her nervousness about the event–was anything but ordinary. After all, it’s not everyday one of showbiz’s prettiest young stars turns 18, with cameras following her around for a TV special to boot. Any debutante would understandably be nervous like Kim was last April 26 at the GlassGarden. It was already 7 pm and her make-up was not done yet. Even worse, last minute adjustments had to be made on her gown.

So did Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition’s Cinderella make it to her the ball on time? She did and even managed to talk to ABS-CBN.com about her journey from shy, giggly teen to confident–but still giggly–woman.

Growing up

Looking back on the days after winning PBB, Kim realizes how blessed her life has become. In three years, she had established a name for herself in showbiz and gained hordes of fans. She also gets gifts from fans, support from sponsors, and lots of traveling opportunities from her work. More importantly, Kim is happy with the fruits of her labor. At her young age, she has been able to afford a Grandia, a Fortuner, and centralized air conditioning for her condo among others. But the biggest accomplishment for her is that she has been able to provide for her family, the people that matter to her the most.

For most of us, Kim will always be that bubbly girl who can chase our troubles away with just a smile. Now that she has turned 18, she takes a look back on some of the most memorable moments in her life.

Unforgettable childhood experience

Favorite vacation spot with family

Mahilig kaming mag-swim, maghabulan, tsaka mag-volleyball.”

KimFavorite hangout

SaCebukasi merong mall dun na may malaking tambayan. Dun kami lagi ng mga classmates ko. Nagte-take out lang kami ng pagkain tapos dadalhin namin dun. As in marami kami, tapos iba-iba pa ng ugali.

Most embarrassing experience

Yung first menstruation ko.

Kilig moments with boys

Finally, nung nagka-boyfriend ako, first year high school ako tapos siya third year na.

Catch more of Kim’s candid moments and her grand coming-out party in the TV special, My Girl Turns 18, May 4 after PBB Teen Edition Plus.

ONE OF KIM’S BIRTHDAY WISHES GRANTED – A PINK CAR!

MORE Kim Chiu news! She must really be in cloud 9 these days! All her wishes were practically granted. She had a star-studded 18th birthday celebration held at Glass Garden in Pasig City. Seen during the party were Kim’s family, friends and coworkers.Kim couldn’t ask for more. She has a stable career, happy family and Gerald for a boyfriend! Hmm…what made me conclude that Kim and Gerald are officially on? Not a lot of people know that after the celebration at Glass Garden, Kim with her family and friends went to Libis for a get-together. Guess what was waiting for Kim in the parking area?A pink car! Yes, Gerald gifted her with a pink car but doesn’t want a lot of people to know.Pero Gerald can’t keep it a secret. A lot of people saw the drama in Libis including TV directors Jerome Pobocan and Tots Sanchez-Mariscal. And Kim must be really proud of it. My source says, “It was one romantic drama I’ve seen. Very sweet.”

KIM CHIU CELEBRATES HER 18th BIRTHDAY

Of course, when there’s Gerald, Kim is not far apart.

“As I take my stand and get ready to soar the vast sky, it would please me to have you by my side….” Were the words of Kim as she celebrated her debut last night at the Glass Garden. It was a fantastic debut which will be  the main feature of the television special “My Girl Turns 18” which will be aired on May 4, Sunday at 9:30pm.  Her gowns for her pictorials and the debut were created by Francis Libiran.  The sumptuous food was  catered by Hizon’s and the venue was beautified by Lily Flower Boutique.  Souvenirs were from Charms and Crystals which was a big hit to the attendees.

A little before the debut, we talked to Kim. She was excited but at the same time, shy and very scared. Kaya naman this is really a dream come true for me.  Para talagang fairy tale!”

Kim will soon be seen on television in “Maligno”.  She is very happy to be given a chance to work with Claudine Barretto.  Her happiness soared to greater heights when she was surprised in a presscon where the announcement was made regarding her being the star of the localized version of the famous Korean telenovela “My Girl”.  In both shows, she will still be teamed with Gerald Anderson.

Kim Chiu’s 18th birthday celebration: “A dream come true.”

As a showbiz fan growing up in Cebu, Kimberly Sue Yap Chiu used to watch her favorite stars celebrate their birthdays only in their home television. Back then, the pretty chinita could only wonder how it feels like to celebrate one’s foray into womanhood in grand fashion.

Last night, April 26, the 2006 Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition big winner finally tasted how sweet such moment is for any young lady.

Joined by her ABS-CBN family and close relatives, Kim Chiu celebrated her 18th birthday at the classy Glass Garden in Pasig City.

Kim, however, shared to PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) that she was more unnerved at first than thrilled. “Una ayoko kasi nahihiya ako,” Kim admitted candidly.

Masaya pala,” smiled Kim.

DREAM COME TRUE. For the special occasion, Kim’s friends and showbiz colleagues, particularly the young Star Magic stars, came in full force to celebrate with the debutant.

It was indeed a grand celebration right from the start complete with red carpet treatment for all the guests. At exactly 9:50 in the evening, Kim, who was donning a baby pink hued gown, descended from the majestic staircase-leaving everyone inside the venue in awe.

Waiting for Kim was her father, Mr. William Chiu, who took the honor of accompanying his lovely daughter to the podium.

In an earlier interview, Kim’s father said that he is still not fond with the idea of his daughter accepting suitors, much more having a boyfriend at this point.

“‘Wag muna ngayon,” he openly opposed, “hanapbuhay muna. Padamihan muna pera niya bago magpaligaw.

In a tender moment between father and daughter, Mr. Chiu served as Kim’s first and only formal cotillion dance for the evening.

The evening of course would not be complete without Kim’s love team partner Gerald Anderson. Kim and Gerald first met in Pinoy Big Brother where they first displayed their good chemistry. After their PBB stint, Kim and Gerald instantly became one of the most popular young love teams as proven by the success of the teleserye Sana Maulit Muli and the their first lead team up movie, I’ve Fallen For You.

Kim and Gerald will soon be seen in the local adaptation of the hit Korean telenovela, My Girl.

Now that Kim is already 18, is Gerald thinking of seriously pursuing his screen partner to make their reel romance real?

Pero 18, dapat puwede na,” beamed Gerald, totally oblivious on the comments made by Kim’s father.

But what made the evening extra special for the celebrant was the presence of her relatives, which is a rare occurrence according to the young star due to geographical distance and schedule conflicts.

Overwhelmed with the support given by her home network, Kim was reduced to tears while giving out her message.

Drowned by the applause of all her guests and well-wishers, Kim humbly punctuated her message by saying once more, “Thank you… thank you so much.”

Kim’s debut, aptly titled My Girl Turns 18, will be telecast on May 4 at 9:30 pm on ABS-CBN.

Maligno is unleashed on Primetime Bida

Maligno

“Whoever tries to hinder the devil’s schemes will face death.” This premise sums up the plot of Maligno, the second sineserye from the Susan Roces Cinema Collection. In her comeback television project, Claudine Barretto plays Angela Cortez, a well-known newscaster who is forced to give birth to a demon child. Although she tries to escape, destiny catches up with Angela who only then realizes that her son is doomed to become a satanic cult’s chosen one.

Maligno

Judging from the preview shown to the media last April 16, Maligno promises to be a worthy follow-up to the success of the first sineserye from The Susan Roces Cinema Collection, Patayin Sa Sindak Si Barbara. For lead actress Claudine, there’s the added pressure of knowing that the original Maligno gave Susan Roces her first Best Actress trophy in 1977. She says that she stopped herself from watching the whole film to ensure that her portrayal wouldn’t be a mere copy of Ms. Roces’s stellar performance. When asked if she got scared while taping the sineserye, Claudine admits that she constantly met with the pastor of Victory Christian Fellowship to help her overcome any negative thoughts. “At the end of the day, it’s just a role. What’s important is how strong your faith is,” she adds.

MalignoHer co-stars Diether Ocampo and Rafael Rosell also didn’t watch the movie in its entirety so that they can use their own acting styles in their respective roles. They needn’t be worried though; Queen of Philippine Cinema Susan Roces is more than happy with their performances and the fresh inputs in the production.

Get ready to be scared out of your wits with Maligno, starring Claudine Barretto, Diether Ocampo, Rafael Rosell, Kim Chiu, Gerald Anderson, DJ Durano, Arlene Tolibas, Empoy, Carlo Lanas, and Ms. Susan Roces with the special participation of Ms. Rio Locsin. Directed by Wenn Deramas, Maligno premieres on April 28 right after Lobo on Primetime Bida.

‘MY GIRL TURNS 18′, Kim Chiu’s Debut TV Special

In the presscon given by Star Magic for Kim Chiu, the colored pink yells in all parts of the area. The place was decorated with matching pink balloons, pink roses and two huge cakes on the side with of course a touch of pink on each.

Really, to quote Sta Magic Corporate PR, Rikka Dylim, “The very first Teen Big Winner is now a lady!” Kim will be donning a gown designed by Francis Libiran on April 6 at the Glass Garden. The said debut will be the main feature of her television special My Girl Turns 18.

This will be aired on May 04, Sunday, 9:30 in the evening presented by ABS-CBN for all the fans of Gerald Anderson and Kim. Her birthday wish? A pink car. Can Gerald afford this?

The Cebuana cutie immediatelly answered “Hmm..puwede naman siguro yung matchbox lang, basta kulay pink”. Gerald, meron na kaya? Kim’s actual birthday is today, April 19.

Happy Birthday Kim Chiu!

Gerald Anderson simply tired of gay-benefactor rumor

Gerald Anderson simply tired of gay-benefactor rumor

But this time, pinangalan na ang diumano’y gay benefactor niya.

JUST LIKE PIOLO AND SAM.
