Direk Andoy Ranay is one of the most amiable people I’ve met in ABS-CBN. He would hang out in Starbucks or in Gram’s and is always ready to offer a smile to me, other ABS colleagues, onlookers and even the insects surrounding the network.
That’s why I’m surprised about all these things involving him and his Prinsesa ng banyera star Kristine Hermosa and how they are fighting. But both have not exactly denied it and Kristine’s management Star Magic has issued a scathing statement on the writer who first reported about their alleged fight.
Anyway, everyone has moved on and Direk Andoy is now directing another afternoon soap, Ligaw na Bulaklak….. but was conspicuously absent during the press con of the mentioned soap.
Everyone wanted to interview him and get his side.
But while I got surprised with how he got into a controversy, I am not surprised he is now avoiding it because he’s the type of guy who lets his work speak for itself.

Star Magic defends Claudine Barretto and Kristine Hermosa
Star Magic defends two of its biggest stars—Claudine Barretto and Kristine Hermosa—from wrongful accusations by two controversial press people, Alfie Lorenzo and Dolly Ann Carvajal.
Dolly Ann wrote in her column in the Philippine Daily Inquirer that Kristine Hermosa had an attitude problem, which made things difficult for Prinsesa ng Banyera director Andoy Ranay. Star Magic management commented, saying that the writer’s stories are very one-sided making it very biased. It also pointed out that Dolly Ann’s articles obviously did not give Kristine the chance to air her side. “Kristine has been a difficult actress in the past because of her youth and inexperience. She has always been a reluctant actress and star. But in recent times she has shown a certain maturity born out of 
experience and wisdom and she has exerted professionalism to a high degree,” said Star Magic in defense of its ward.
Meanwhile, ABS-CBN’s talent management arm also chastised talent manager and entertainment writer Alfie Lorenzo, who accused Claudine Barretto of riding on his alaga, Judy Ann Santos’s popularity in making a showbiz come back. “Naiinis ako kasi they’re trying to find a way para gumawa ng ingay yung pagbabalik ni Claudine. Ang kinaiinis ko lumang style na yun,” said the talent manager. Star Magic said that there is no truth to Alfie’s claim, and that Claudine does not need any help from Alfie nor his talent to make a comeback. “ABS-CBN believes that Ms. Claudine Barretto made a name in show biz and has a loyal following because of her popularity and hard work and has no need of any help from Judy Ann Santos and any bitter old men posing as show biz journalist. ABS-CBN has high regard for Claudine as with other artists.”
Prinsesa ng Banyera” to air finale next week
ABS-CBN’s high-rating teleserye “Prinsesa ng Banyera” will air its last telecast on May 23, 2008 after successfully topping local television’s afternoon race during its nine-month stint.
When it was conceptualized, the program was to run only for one season. But with the positive feedback from viewers and consistent high ratings, “Prinsesa ng Banyera” extended its run and lasted on-air for nine months.
The show consistently topped ABS-CBN’s “Hapontastic” campaign.
Now that the hit TV show approaches its final week, viewers will surely miss following the adventures of the central character of “Prinsesa ng Banyera”, Maningning.
But ABS-CBN assures its viewers that they will be provided with unique and different concepts in future shows.
The Kapamilya network’s priority is to give loyal viewers the best programs possible. Although the series will not continue its third season run, ABS-CBN guarantees fans of Kristine Hermosa and TJ Trinidad that a new soap opera is currently in development for their favorite love team.
Kristine Hermosa declines to comment about her rumored rift with “Prinsesa ng Banyera” director
Usap-usapan na dapat daw ay sa July pa mawawala sa ere ang Prinsesa ng Banyera pero dahil daw sa tensyong namamagitan kina Kristine Hermosa at Direk Andoy Ranay ay napaaga raw ang pagkawala nito sa ere.
In two weeks time ay ‘di na mapapanood pa ang Prinsesa ng Banyera sa kabila ng mainit na pagsuporta sa programa ng publiko.
Lumabas din sa mga usap-usapan na naging problema umano ang magandang aktres sa set ng Banyera. Lagi raw itong late umano sa set, at laging nabibigay raw ng sakit ng ulo kay Direk Andoy.
Sinuwerte namang nakausap ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) last Sunday si Kristine sa ASAP ‘08 at binigyang-linaw ng aktres ang mga negatibong intriga na walang-tigil at patuloy na ibinabato sa kanya ngayon.
“Regarding diyan sa sinasabi nilang away daw namin ni Direk Andoy, parang ayoko yatang mag-comment. Parang ang dapat yatang tanungin ay si Direk Andoy at ‘di ako.
“Diyan sa sinasabi nilang nagbigay daw ako ng sakit ng ulo sa set, di sana hindi namin natapos ang Banyera?
“For me kasi as long as ginagawa ko nang maayos ang trabaho ko, malinis ang konsiyensiya ko and masaya ako sa mga kasama ko, walang problema sa akin kahit na ano pa ang sabihin nila sa akin. Wala namang nakakaalam ng totoo kundi si God, at saka yung mga totoong tao sa akin. Yung mga totoong tao sa paligid ko na walang iniisip kundi yung kabutihan ko. Yung mga totoong nagmamahal sa akin.”
SAD ABOUT THE ISSUE. Ayon kay Kristine, masaya siya hindi lang sa magandang ratings ng Banyera kundi pati na rin sa bonding na nabuo sa buong cast. Ikinalulungkot niya nga raw ang biglang paglabas ng issue sa kanila ni Direk Andoy.
“Mahal ko yung buong cast. Kung ‘di dahil sa kanilang lahat, ‘di ako gaganahang magtrabaho. Almost every day kaming magkakasama.
“Nung unang nagsisimula kami sa Banyera, akala ko trabaho lang talaga ito. Pero nung tumatagal na kaming magkakasama, naramdaman ko na parang kapatid ko na ang mga ito. Sina Ara and TJ [Trinidad], todo ang suporta nila sa akin. Alam mo yung naggo-grow yung relationship namin, yung friendship ng bawat isa?
“Nakakalungkot talaga nung biglang lumabas yung mga negative issues. Pero hindi ko pinagsisihan. ‘Di natin alam kung ano ang purpose. Lahat naman ng bagay may purpose. Basta, ayoko na lang na sa akin manggaling.”
Hindi na nga naman daw siya mag-aaksaya pa sa pagpapaliwanag kung sarado na ang isip ng ilan tungkol sa kanya at sa isyung kinasasangkutan niya.
“Ang mga tao papaniwalaan nila kung ano ang sa tingin nila ay totoo o hindi. Kahit anong explain mo, kung hindi sila maniniwala… Para sa akin, binibigay ko sa kanila yung opportunity na magkaroon ng sariling opinion.”
Sa nakatakdang pagwawakas ng Prinsesa ng Banyera, umaasa na lang si Kristine na sana raw ay may kasunod agad siyang gagawin.
“Sabi nila [management] meron daw, pero ako kasi ayokong mag-drop ng statement hangga’t wala pa. But I’m hoping na sana magkaroon nga.”
RELATIONSHIPS. Ever since ay open si Oyo Boy Sotto sa special feelings na nararamdaman niya for Kristine. She admitted to PEP na sobra naman niyang naa-appreciate ang presence ni Oyo sa buhay niya.
“Okey siya, all support pa rin siya sa akin, magkaibigan pa rin kami. Saludo ako sa taong yun, wala akong masasabi sa kanya.”
Sa mga nakaraang interviews kay Diether Ocampo ay inamin nito na hindi na sila magkakabalikan pa ni Kristine sa kabila ng malalim na pagmamahal pa rin niya rito. Kinumusta tuloy namin si Diet kay Tin.
“May communication pa rin kami although ‘di na kami masyadong nagkikita. ‘Pag may mga kailangang itanong.
Umaasa ba si Kristine na magkakabalikan din sila ni Diet?
“Ako kasi ayokong ipilit pa ang mga bagay na hindi pa hinog o ‘pag hindi pa talaga time. ‘Pag hindi pa kasi talaga oras, laging may isa o dalawang bagay na ‘di aayon sa mga pangyayari. Saka ‘pag pinilit mo siya, wala lalong mangyayari. Magiging mas kumplikado ang mga bagay-bagay.”

Diet keen on ‘Prinsesa ng Banyera’ roleActor Diether Ocampo said he is open to the idea of a role in ABS-CBN’s afternoon soap “Prinsesa ng Banyera” topbilled by his former real life sweetheart, actress Kristine Hermosa.
In an interview with the members of entertainment media, Ocampo said that if there’s an offer from management, he will gladly welcome it.
The actor, however, said he still cannot confirm reports that he is being considered for a part in the afternoon soap.
He said that while such an offer would be welcome, he has yet to receive an invitation.
Ocampo’s statement stemmed from reports that Diet-Kristine fans are asking the network to include Ocampo in the popular afternoon series.
Working with Kristine
Recently, Ocampo confirmed reports that he and Hermosa were sighted in the island of Boracay.
He said they were in Boracay to do a photo shoot for a special project.
“Ngayon okay naman kami, in fact, nagka-trabaho kami pero for photo shoot. Abangan na lang nila iyon may ginawa kaming project together na nag-trabaho kami for a particular photo shoot,” Ocampo said,
And as usual, Ocampo was unable to clarify the status of his on-off, sort-of relationship with Hermosa. He said that what is more important now are the good things happening in their lives.
“Sa ngayon kasi hindi ko muna iniisip iyon dahil sa gaya ng sinasabi ko medyo maganda naman iyong mga nangyari pareho sa amin dahil pareho kaming abala sa trabaho at the same time may bago kaming proyekto na ginagawa for ABS-CBN,” Ocampo added.
Ocampo also denied a report that he is asking for “a break” from his love team with Hermosa.
“Wala akong nabanggit na ganoon. Hindi ako pwedeng mag-decide pagdating sa ganyang bagay. Ngayon okay naman kami.”
Ocampo is now busy with his K.I.D.S Foundation for poor children.
Ocampo’s K.I.D.S. Foundation helps underprivileged children of Metro Manila and other provinces in the country.
He is also part of “Maligno,” the second offering of ABS-CBN’s “Sineserye Presents: The Susan Roces Collection” with his best friend Claudine Barretto.

Diether admits that he and Kristine never got back together. “We’re not together anymore,” he said. “Dumaan kami sa maraming proseso na medyo mahirap para sa aming dalawa. At this point, medyomahirap (sa kalooban) pero we’re moving on.” The actor emphasized that sacrifices are inevitable in relationships, and theirs is no exception. He said that each of them has certain pursuits in life which the other could not support.

Diether and Kristine together again–for work
Hunk actor Diether Ocampo said that he and his former sweetheart actress Kristine Hermosa are back together again–but for other than romantic prospects.
Ocampo confirmed reports that he and the actress were sighted in the island of Boracay.
The actor said they were in Boracay to do a photo shoot for a special project.
“Ngayon okay naman kami, in fact, nagka-trabaho kami pero for photo shoot. Abangan na lang nila iyon may ginawa kaming project together na nag-trabaho kami for a particular photo shoot,” Ocampo told members of entertainment media before the preview of “Maligno,” the second offering of ABS-CBN’s Sineserye Presents: The Susan Roces Collection.
As usual, Ocampo was unable to clarify the status of his on-off, sort-of relationship with Hermosa. He said that what is more important now are the good things happening in their lives.
“Sa ngayon kasi hindi ko muna iniisip iyon dahil sa gaya ng sinasabi ko medyo maganda naman iyong mga nangyari pareho sa amin dahil pareho kaming abala sa trabaho at the same time may bago kaming proyekto na ginagawa for ABS-CBN,” Ocampo said.
And how did it feel to be with Hermosa again? Ocampo’s answer could be summed up in one word: Exhausting. This is because, according to the actor, all they did in the island was work.
No socialite
So is it really over between him and Kristine? And won’t their continued vagueness about their relationship make their fans cease to care?
Well, Ocampo said that he’s not really making any romance between them a priority.
“Wala naman akong nabanggit na ganoon pero siyempre gaya ng nauna kong pahayag hindi ko muna binibigyan ng prioridad iyon. Ang importante ay may nagagawa tayong magagandang bagay. Nakakapagpasaya tayo ng tao at marami tayong natutulungan lalo na ang mga kabataan,” Ocampo calmly told abs-cbnNEWS.com.
Ocampo also dismissed the reports that he is now dating a socialite.
“No. To be honest, marami akong mga bagong nakikilala mga bagong kaibigan. Yeah may mga nakaka-halubilo akong mga socialite pero mga kaibigan lang,” the actor said.
He added that his love life has taken a back seat, now that he’s more focused on his foundation for children. “Right now medyo mas abala ako ng projects for K.I.D.S Foundation. Sa katunayan galing ako sa Camarnes Sur dahil sa nagkaroon kami ng feeding program sa area na iyon.”
Ocampo’s K.I.D.S. Foundation helps underprivileged children of Metro Manila and other provinces in the country.
