"CAREGIVER" Magiging Top Grosser Para Sa 2008!!!
JoKer DeTor Showbiz Top i-News http://joemer.blogetery.com
SHARON, BABALIK DIN KAY GABBY!
By RONALD C. CARBALLO
It would break my heart ‘pag ginawa ito ng Viva Films. (Bakit kaya sinasabi ni Sharon na Viva? Hindi Viva ang Dear Heart. It’s Sining Silangan ni Ernie Rojas, directed by Danny Zialcita) Kahit sino, walang karapatang i-remake ito.
First time si Sharon na maidirek ni Chito after ng isang episode sa MMK long time ago. Hangad naming maging mega-blockbuster ang “Caregiver” for Sharon. She deserves it after four long years of absence in making good films.
| Movie Review: Give a care about ‘Caregiver’ |
|
In her first movie after four years, Sharon Cuneta once again proves her caliber as a dramatic actress. In Star Cinema’s 15th anniversary offering Caregiver, the Megastar plays Sarah, a woman who leaves her teaching job and her son behind in the country for a caregiver position in London. However, all is not easy as emotional and financial issues soon rise to the surface. Although Caregiver has heavy confrontation scenes complete with hard-hitting dialogue, it is in the quieter moments where Sharon stands out even more. In the scene where Sarah invites her husband (played convincingly by John Estrada) to celebrate her promotion, her eyes and face radiate with frustration when money and career become a big issue between the couple. Sharon’s few scenes with veteran actress Anita Linda, who plays her senile grandmother, are absolute Caregiver paints an accurate picture of these OFWs, showing the extensive training that caregivers must undertake before they can get to work in hospitals and nursing homes abroad. Oftentimes, Filipino caregivers go beyond the call of duty, seeing their wards as real people rather than just mere patients or clients. Sharon’s own character Sarah, is a compassionate woman, who later views that same compassion as a liability when it takes an emotional toll. Sarah’s relationship with her difficult patient Mr. Morgan is one of the highlights of the film. Despite his cantankerous nature, they develop a friendship, with Mr. Morgan eventually giving Sarah a gift that changes her perception of life.
The movie also depicts the lighter side of life as an overseas worker with a bunch of light comic scenes. It shows how any Filipino will remain a Filipino no matter where life takes him around the globe. He will ask a fellow Pinoy to send him buro and bagoong and will always have a Santo Niño and Virgin Mary in his house. The Megastar has mentioned in previous interviews how she wishes that Caregiver will make audiences appreciate how caregivers–and all OFWs for that matter—sacrifice a lot for their families and for the country. And the movie does precisely that. All in all, Caregiver is a story that could apply to each of us in our search for life’s meaning and for one’s self-worth. |
Gabby’s Four Girls On His Four Films On Star Cinema!!!

We heard na may teleserye pa siyang ginagawa.
Sharon Cuneta still against “Dear Heart” remake; GMA offers KC the role of Darna

“DEAR HEART” REMAKE.
I was only 15 nang gawin ko ‘yon. Kung gagawin ang Dear Heart you have to create a unique kind of magic for this generation.
“Ang ganda-ganda namang bata ni Queenie and, of course, I love Robin. Ang tawagan nga namin niyan, ‘kambal,’ because we’re very similar. Of course, Robin is very smart… I’m not saying I’m smart, pero ‘yong jokes niya, whenever we see each other, it always synch. Who’s gonna make the remake daw?”
“If Viva will remake it, it will break my heart. It will break my heart, because Dear Heart is… That’s one in a lifetime thing,” pagtatapat ni Sharon.
“As I’ve said, I was only 15 nang gawin ko ‘yon and KC is now 23.
POSSIBLE PROJECTS WITH ROBIN & RICHARD. How about a project with Robin?
“My God, we’ve been talking about the project for two years now!” sabi niya. “Nakapag-meeting na kami ng ilang beses, but for some reasons, di pa natutuloy.
“Yung susunod na project, pagmi-mitingan pa after we promote this movie.
“Hindi ko pa rin alam, but those movies are set to be done,” sagot niya. So unless Star Cinema announces something, it’s hard for me to say.”
KC AS DARNA?
“Yes, she’s been offered,” pag-amin ng Megastar. “But I’m not so sure if she is committed. What I know is that she will do the movies first, and I think that’s the best decision.
“Nakakatuwa, but can I tell the truth? I guested noon in Captain Barbell [of Edu Manzano and Herbert Bautista] as Darna, because that was the intro sana to what was the full-length movie of Darna na ako na ang gaganap. So people are waiting.
Sharon raring to do movie with KC, not so with Gabby
Actress Sharon Cuneta, known as the Philippines’ “Megastar”, can’t wait to make a movie with her eldest daughter KC Concepcion–but she’s thankful that no film project is being prepared for her and KC’s dad, her ex-husband Gabby Concepcion.
“I’m looking forward to make a movie with my daughter actually. I’m sure she’s gonna do very well. She has a three-picture contract with Star (Cinema). So she’s gonna start the ball rolling then, maybe up to that,” Cuneta added.
Sharon has repeatedly said in interviews that she’s afraid that any movie she will co-star in with Gabby will spark rumors about their past–as well as insinuations about what their present relationship is.
Being a veteran of showbiz intrigues, Sharon said any rumors about her and Gabby at this time might hurt her present family.
“Tama ‘yung decision niya at saka ng managers niya na huwag munang ma-associate with me or her Pa (Gabby Concepcion) you know, the usual na ini-expect,” Cuneta told abs-cbnNEWS.com during a press conference for her Nestle Ice Cream commercial held at Annabel’s Restaurant in Tomas Morato.
KC (Maria Kristina Cassandra Cuneta Pangilinan in real life) is legally adopted by Sharon’s present husband, Senator Francis Pangilinan. KC, however, uses her biological dad’s family name as her screen name.
Sharon has two daughters with Senator Pangilinan.
Up to KC
Sharon said that KC is old enough to decide whether she wants to star in a film with her biological father. “It’s up to her also if she wants to do a movie with her Papa so no problem,” Cuneta said.
Recently, KC said that she prefers to do a film first with her mother. Sharon said that she feels good about KC’s statement.
“I’m so touched naman by her. Because I really taught her naman to love and respect her Papa. And she remembers that anything that happened between me and her Papa was not her fault at all. It’s different ang relationship ng asawa at mag-ama, so iba yon.
“But I’m very proud of her for saying that. I’m very secure, we are crazy about each other, me and KC,” Cuneta said.
Last April 30, a teary-eyed KC signed a three-movie contract with the ABS-CBN’s movie outfit Star Cinema
KC’s first ever film will be a light romance flick to be directed by Joyce Bernal.
KC’s first leading man is GMA-7 contract star Richard Gutierrez, in a casting coup that set aside the rivalry between the two networks.
Chito Roño unleashes a different Sharon in ‘Caregiver’
Critically-acclaimed director Chito Roño unleashes the acting prowess of Megastar Sharon Cuneta in “Caregiver,” Star Cinema’s groundbreaking project this year.
Roño said viewers will see a different Cuneta for this film, after the actress took her thespian skills to a level never seen before.
“Find out, siguro naman with Sharon and me, [there] is something special.”
Roño also described his experience of working with the Megastar:
He also revealed that like ordinary mortals, the Megastar also had her good and bad days.
‘Caregiver’ based on real lives
Roño admitted that the story behind “Caregiver” was based on real lives of caregivers abroad — their dreams, pains and sacrifices.
“Marami, ako personally may mga kilala ako na kinopya ko ang ibang bahagi ng sitwasyon sa pelikulang ito,” he said.
He said that aside from research, he actually talked to other caregivers who willingly shared their experiences.
“Caregiver’ tells the story of Sarah, a schoolteacher who opted to work as a caregiver in London for her family’s future.
It is a movie that tackles the hardships in the lives of OFWs, through the life of Filipina caregiver Sarah.
Roño said that at this point, he’s not thinking about possible awards that the film might receive.
I want to offer them something special everytime I do a movie for them,” Roño said.
Eighty percent of the film was shot in London for three straight weeks.
The cast includes British actors Saul Reichlin, Matthew Rutherford, Claire Jeater and a powerhouse cast of Filipinos — John Estrada, Rica Peralejo, Makisig Morales, John Manalo, Jhong Hilario, Mickey Feriols, Lotlot de Leon, Marita Zobel, Anita Linda, Ella V., Ima Castro and veteran actress Boots Anson Roa.
The film is Cuneta’s 30th anniversary offering to fans and supporters and also in celebration of Star Cinema’s 15th year.
Sharon says KC, Richard are just friends
Megastar Sharon Cuneta said her daughter KC Concepcion and actor Richard Gutierrez are just good friends.
Cuneta made the statement in response to reports that Concepcion and Gutierrez are now partners on and off the screen. The two will star in an upcoming movie by Star Cinema.
“It is her first movie. She’s nervous but excited. And she’s happy to be working with Richard, who she is not dating by the way. They are good, good friends. I’m proud to say that they have good, good heads on their shoulders,” Cuneta said.
“They know their priorities that’s why lalo kong nirespeto si Richard. They know that it is not the right time to get into anything so they are friends,” Cuneta added.
When asked if she will allow Richard to court her daughter, Cuneta said, “Oo.
Proud mother
Cuneta is proud that her daughter is making her own mark in the world of showbusiness.
“Ako I’m very happy proud and happy. I made it very clear from the beginning that there’s a very clear distinction between KC’s career and my career. We are not a package deal- never were and never will be.
“Ang dali-dali to do a movie with your daughter and we always encouraged and supported yung kagustuhan niyang to make her own mark and make a name for her self and get out of the shadow of her mom, papa, dad,” she said.
She is also happy that her daughter has taken on the role of being a celebrity like a natural.
“She has done it successfully first as an endorser and I’m glad actually that she’s enjoying herself which she really had no choice. She had no choice between staying, becoming a private person and being a celebrity.
“She became a celebrity from the moment she was conceived so I’m happy that she’s enjoying it. She just embraced it I think,” Cuneta said.
She said her daughter does not take her celebrity status for granted.
“It makes me feel very happy na although KC has been known since she was little, she knows she has a lot to prove,” she added.

Megastar Sharon Cuneta, who celebrates her 30 years in the business this year, admitted that there had been a time when she thought that she would retire from show biz. She said that she entertained this thought when she got married to husband Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan. Nung nag-asawa ako, I was 30 but I was doing Madrasta,” she revealed. “I really slowed down. Parang okay na okay na ako. I was really happy being domesticated.”
Now in her 40’s, the Megastar is still very much active in the entertainment scene and is
not showing any sign of retiring anytime soon. Her secret for remaining a strong pillar in the business, are God’s grace, dedication and real love for all the things she does. Right now, nagulat ako na there’s a project pa like this,” she shared, referring to Caregiver, her latest film produced by Star Cinema. The movie will be hitting theaters on May 28.
Sharon is very proud of the project not only because it was beautifully made, but also because it made a big impact on her as a person. “Hindi lang ang career ko ang na-touch ng pelikulang ito, pagkatao ko talaga and God is my witness. It was very humbling,” she said. Caregiver is the story of a teacher, who decided to give up her job to become a health worker in London and earn more money to support her family.

May pinaka-maraming endorsements ngayon sina Sharon Cuneta, Kris Aquino, Angel Locsin, KC Concepcion at Judy Ann Santos.
“AYOKONG MAG-COMMENT ABOUT GABBY! WALA AKONG KINALAMAN SA COMEBACK NIYA!” –SHARON CUNETA
“Ayaw kong mag-comment about him.
Pero kahit magkakasama sila, wala raw naganap na besohan between Priscilla and Janice.

SHARON CUNETA’S CAREGIVER IS 2008′S MOVIE EVENT!
WITH all the promotional plans Star Cinema has prepared, Sharon Cuneta’s Caregiver is without a doubt 2008’s movie event. Shot in London, Caregiver is Star Cinema’s 15th anniversary offering. It is also Sharon’s comeback movie after 4 years of not being visible in the moviemaking scene.Sharon did 3 movies for Star Cinema. First was Madrasta which gave Sharon a grand slam best actress victory. Followed by Minsan Minahal Kita with Richard Gomez and Kung Ako Na Lang Sana with Aga Muhlach. All 3 movies were certified box office hits.
In Caregiver, Sharon gets to work with Chito S. Rono for the first time. Also in the cast of Caregiver are John Estrada, Rica Peralejo, Mickey Ferriols, Boots Anson-Roa, Anita Linda, Aaron Villaflor, John Manalo and Makisig Morales.Caregiver has a nationwide showing on May 28. A world premiere is now being mounted by Star Cinema and ABS-CBN Global. Announcement of the date will be announced soon.
Aga Muhlach might be reunited with Sharon Cuneta in a movie next year

With a sitcom That’s My Doc, the box-office hit When Love Begins, and a new endorsement deal with Sun Cellular tucked under his belt, premiere actor Aga Muhlach feels really blessed these days.
At the Sun Cellular press luncheon held yesterday, May 9, at the Bar One of Holiday Inn Galleria Manila in Pasig City, Aga said he is happy and proud to be part of the Sun Cellular family.
“Sun [Cellular] is a new player, there’s room for growth and improvement, so I want to be a part of that. It’s a new leaf, bagong pahina sa buhay ko ‘to.”
And speaking of new things in his life, more projects are lined up for the talented 38-year-old actor, including a Star Cinema movie with the Megastar Sharon Cuneta in 2009.
“There’s a script already,” Aga said. “They pitched it to Sharon before she left for London and when Sharon was in London they pitched it to me. We’re going to meet with Sharon in two weeks time and we’re going to discuss about the story and we’re going to see how it goes.”
Sharon just returned from shooting Caregiver in London, her new movie with Star Cinema after four years.
“Medyo mahirap kasi ‘yong pelikula,” Aga said about his planned movie with Sharon. “Unang-una, we’re going to be working abroad again, a different country, and it’s hard to work ‘pag nasa ibang bansa ka talaga, nakakapagod.”
When pressed for more details about the movie. Aga just said smiling, “Basta ‘yon lang muna. You’ll find out naman.”
There are also rumors that Aga will guest star in international star Lea Salonga’s 30th anniversary concert billed Lea, My Life… On Stage! on May 23 and 24 at the Philippine International Convention Center Plenary Hall.
“Well, I’d love to do that. But Lea Salonga singing, an orchestra… What am I going to do there? Magpapatawa na lang ako doon!” Aga says with a laugh. “Pero kung magge-guest talaga ako doon, then I will insist that I sing, di ba? I’ll sing one song, a duet with her.
Aga and Lea starred in the 1992 romantic movie Bakit Labis Kitang Mahal and Sana Maulit Muli in 1995.
Will there be a follow-up anytime soon? “I’d love to do another movie with Lea, of course. Because I spoke with the husband [Robert Chien], parang sabi niya, ‘Lea can only do a movie if it’s with you.’”
This was confirmed by Lea herself at the presscon of her anniversary concert last May 7. “Only if with Aga,” she quipped when asked if she’s going to do another movie.

Sharon: No movie teamup with Gabby
Local showbiz Megastar, actress Sharon Cuneta finally put an end to the possibility of doing a movie again with her former husband, comeback actor Gabby Concepcion.
In an exclusive interview by ABS-CBN News Bureau chief Danny Buenafe in London, Cuneta said that she decided not to do a film with Concepcion since this will only create a lot of intrigues that would really affect her family.
“Kung sa akin okey lang but you know, I think I don’t have the heart to put my husband and my three daughters including KC not only the two little ones sa nakikinita kong mga intriga … na usually ano, paglalaruan kayo, so huwag na lang, it’s not worth it,” Cuneta said.
Cuneta is busy shooting her film under Star Cinema entitled “Caregiver.” To show his support and love, her husband Senator Francis Pangilinan followed and is with her in London.
Cuneta dismissed the possibility of accepting the project even if the price is extremely high. She said no amount could buy her peace of mind.
“Mga 100 million? Maybe I will think about it, but no thanks, niloloko ko sila (laughs). I think he is happy and I’m happy and we moved on so maybe for now we don’t know what will happen in the future baka naman bahala na ang Panginoon doon. but at this point what my heart is telling me is huwag na… Let us give the guy a chance also to shine on its own muna,” Cuneta said.
On April 2nd, Cuneta signed a contract with ABS-CBN for her movie “Caregiver”. After the signing she shared her thoughts about the return of Concepcion– the biological father of her eldest daughter KC.
Concepcion is back in the Philippines and is trying to revive his showbiz career after staying in the United States for 13 years.
When asked about how she felt about Concepcion’s comeback, Sharon replied that she already gave her statement through entertainment writer Ricky Lo’s column.
“Can I just say this, I honestly, honestly don’t know. It’s different when someone is far away and different when (he’s here). I didn’t see his interview but I’d been told. But what I said in the diaryo that’s essentially (it).
“I hope you understand that it’s a very sensitive issue and I’m in a situation that’s intrigue-friendly… but I will say that I wish that we could do a movie together because we each have our own life; there are people in our lives now that mean more to us than we once meant to each other, and it’s not just our feelings anymore. There are other people involved.”
Cuneta however said her relationship with Concepcion has not had complete closure.

Sharon on Gabby: ‘There’s no more pain’ but ‘no closure’ either
During the Wednesday contract signing for her new movie “Caregiver” under Star Cinema, megastar Sharon Cuneta shared her thoughts about the return of actor Gabby Concepcion–the father of her eldest daughter KC.
Gabby is back in the Philippines and is trying to revive his showbiz career after staying in the United States for 13 years.
When asked about how she felt about Gabby’s comeback. Sharon replied that she already gave her statement through Ricky Lo’s column.
There are other people involved.
“So as an actress and a professional I’ve been here 30 years, and it would have been a wonderful thing… So I’d say I’m used to working with him because we did grow up together and I started my career with him. But siguro you know it’s been so long when we did “Dear Heart” I was 15 and I’m now 42.
“Our daughter is turning 23 on April 7 and when I was 23, I was already a single parent [and I] really immersed myself and worked, and refused to take a day off except to be with KC because I needed to. I’m actually amazed and half-surprised and half-not really, that we still have a huge following and that tita Malou Santos told me that the biggest clamor is for a movie, Sharon-Gabby.
“It’s hard lang talaga and I really don’t know. I’m so sorry and as honestly as I can put it I don’t know what to say but I just realized, I don’t know if it was printed but I told Kuya Ricky that I realized only recently that when I came across something about him–there’s no more pain because I’m in a good position now. God blessed me with a husband who’s really loving and caring. I have a great family and I would not do anything to disrupt the peace and happiness of the home that we have,” Sharon said.
But when asked if there’s already a complete closure with their past relationship, Sharon said: “No, there’s never been closure.”
New film
Sharon said that she’s very happy about the fact that she’s making her new movie under Star Cinema with acclaimed director Chito Roño at the helm.
“All I can say is that it’s really beautiful apart from it being my comeback sort of comeback after four years of being absent in big screen. And I’m coming from ‘Walang Kapalit’; ‘Kung Ako na Lang Sana” and “Crying Ladies” in 2003. And then I got pregnant, had Miel, raised her, lost weight, looked decent enough to start filming and still losing weight so I will be cuter na,” she said.
“Caregiver” is Sharon’s 20th year anniversary offering to her fans and supporters and is at the same time Star Cinema’s 15th anniversary offering.
Present during the contract signing were ABS-CBN’s Chairman and CEO Gabby Lopez III and Malou Santos, the managing director of Star Cinema.
Sharon said that she did not think twice about accepting the project since it’s also her dream to work with a great director like Chito Roño. Sharon is flying to London to shoot scenes for the movie.
“So when the story was pitched to me I had no doubt in my mind that I had to do the movie. Apart from the story, of course, one of my dreams has always been to be directed by Director Chito. Now parang do dreams have come true so I’m really grateful.”
Sharon admitted that she will really be having a hard time shooting abroad since it’s her first time to be away from her two little kids Frankie and Miel.
“I know it’s going to be hard filming in London, I’m leaving in two days it’s the first time I will be away with my two little children and my husband for that long. So I have separation anxiety–not my children.”
She said that she will return to the Philippines in time to celebrate her wedding anniversary with husband Senator Francis Pangilinan. “Three weeks I have to be home though before the 28th kasi that’s my 12th wedding anniversary.”

Report: Negotiations on Gabby’s comeback film ongoing
Negotiations between Star Cinema and the management of actor Gabby Concepcion are ongoing to settle the matter of his comeback movie, according to a report that reached abs-cbnNEWS.com.
These negotiations stem from some legal wrangling on which film outfit, Star Cinema or GMA Films, will get to produce Gabby’s first movie after 13 years away from Philippine showbiz.
Supposedly, the discussions are centered on legal problems facing Concepcion and Star Cinema, should plans for his comeback movie under the latter push through.
Legal issues have cropped up after the actor signed on Monday a two-year contract as talent for ABS-CBN for television and film projects. As per the contract he signed with ABS-CBN, he is set to do three films and television projects with the network.
According to the report however, the movie projects–supposed to be produced by Star Cinema–could still be shelved if the legal issues with GMA Films are not resolved.
Gabby signed a movie contract back in September 2007 with GMA Films. That comeback movie would have been a love story titled “Love Cruise” that paired him with actress Jolina Magdangal.
There was a change of plans however and the project was changed to “I.T.A.L.Y.”, a comedy. Gabby reportedly did not like the new script and refused to do work on that film. He was replaced by actor Dennis Trillo.
In an interview over ABS-CBN’s The Buzz on Sunday, Gabby admitted to host Boy Abunda that he opted out of “I.T.A.L.Y” because it did not give enough focus on his character. The actor explained that a film would have to be centered on the character he is playing, for it to be considered his comeback vehicle.
“Kung ito nga ay magiging comeback. it has to be a comeback kasi kung hindi ko magiging comeback, bakit ko gagawin?” Gabby told Boy Abunda.
The actor also said that he’s still willing to honor his contract with GMA Films, provided he and the film outfit are able to iron out a “slight conflict”.
Technical issues
GMA Films insists that Gabby gave it exclusive rights to his comeback movie, in a one-movie deal last year. The actor was quoted by other reports however as saying that the contract onl

tearjerkers, with feelings of hurt and heartbreak palpable in every frame.

In terms of Gabby’s confirmation of a showbiz come-back, Sharon expressed her optimism that as a talented actor, the industry will surely be glad to welcome him back. “Well there’s a shortage of good actors and leading men in the industry and he’s one of the best,” to which she added “And my daughter (KC) is happy that her papa is here, that’s all that matters to me.” With Gabby signing a two-year contract with ABS-CBN, the question of making a movie with Sharon immediately came up. Would she agree to this project if ever it would turn up? “What matters to me more than my career is my family,” further explaining that if it would destroy the peaceful family life she has, she would rather skip the chance.
The Megastar also added that the last time she spoke to Gabby was during a phone call regarding KC’s first visit with him in the US. “I really waited for the moment for so long, when it finally came it was so real and unexpected moment…Yun sinabi n’ya lang sa akin yung pinupuri n’ya si KC, her personality, ganyan ganyan… Tapos eto na yung hinihintay ko, na eto na di ko alam that day dadating, sabi niya ‘Thank You,’” related Sharon, who apparently appeared a little tense, talking about the subject.
